  1. Sikh • Influenced by Hindu and Islam, founded by Guru Nanak (born in 1469 AD), advocating active service. • No smoking/alcohol, No caste system/image worship/priesthood/pilgrimage, but keep Hindu doctrines of karma and transmigration. • Refused to accept any groundless rituals, superstitions, etc. • Nine other Gurus. The last Gurus started Baptism ceremony • “Guru Granth Sahib” -the only scripture complied by the founders of a faith during their own lifetime, compiled y the Fifth Guru- Guru Arjan • Guru Arjan built the world famous Gurdwara (sikh’s temple) - Darbar Sahib

  2. Darbar Sahib - a reflection of clarity, simplicity and logic of the new movement, and the location in the center of the pool would symbolize the synthesis of nirgun and sargun: the spiritual and temporal realms of human existenceInstead of one door - four entrances symbolize the equality of the four castes “Kshatriyas, Brahmins, Sudras and Vaisyas”

  3. Sikhs • Sikhs are expected to join the Khalsa (Punjabi for “pure”), a religious and military order. Initiates are “baptized” by drinking sweetened water stirred with a sword, after which Sikh men take the surname Singh (“lion”) and women take the surname Kaur (“prince,” or here, “princess”). • Members of the Khalsa are instructed to observe the five k’s: They must wear four symbols of the Sikh faith—soldiers’ shorts (kaccha), an iron bangle (kara), a steel sword (kirpan), and a comb (khanga)—and they must not cut their hair (kes).
