Teesside University Open Learning Engineering (TUOLe) • Part of the School of Science and Engineering • 25 years experience of delivering open learning qualifications to over 30,000 students worldwide • Full range of engineering awards at Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma • HNC and HND awards are recognised internationally and by the UK Professional Engineering bodies.

Key Features of Open Learning • Study at a location convenient to you – oil rig in the North Sea or pipeline construction in the desert • Students progress at their own pace • Course broken down into complete study packages, modules delivered as hard copy or electronic file • Tutor Support – telephone or email • Tutor Marked Assessments.

Higher National Award Structure and Progression • Structure of awards • 8 Modules in total comprising a set of core modules, range of optional modules and project related to the workplace • HNC is Higher Education level 4 i.e. first year degree • HND is Higher Education level 5 i.e. second year degree • HND gives a broader range of knowledge • Progression – 2nd Year degree or BEng Tech Top up.

Entry qualifications and fees • HNC – level 3 award in an appropriate engineering subject (including mathematics) • Other qualifications and experience may be considered • Support modules in mathematics and science • HNC/D can be purchased one module at a time - £487.50 per module plus a registration fee • ELCAS accepted.
