  2. AST R&D Activities/FAA Strategic Plan Link • The AST R&D activities supports the FAA strategic flight plan goals of • Increased Safety • Greater Capacity

  3. AST R&D Charter • Consistent with AST leadership in regulatory activity, developing a safe, efficient U. S. Commercial Space Transportation industry. • Provides the framework for the AST R&D Advisory Board and AST R&D Senior Steering Committee (SSC) to manage the process. • Annually, the Advisory Board identifies, evaluates and recommends a prioritized list of R&D Projects to the SSC for its consideration and portfolio selection.

AST R&D Activities FY 2004 • AST R&D Advisory Board • Met monthly to implement its responsibilities • Held meetings to review changes to FY04 Projects and recommended approval to AST R&D SSC • Met weekly to review R&D Projects for FY05 • AST R&D Senior Steering Committee (SSC) • Met quarterly to review progress on FY04 R&D • Met 6/04, 9/04 to review recommended FY05 R&D • Selected 3 AST R&D Projects for FY05

Non-Traditional Flight Safety Systems and Integrated Vehicle Health Monitoring 5. Radio Frequency (RF) Blackout during RLV Reentry • Orbital Debris Models to Predict Safe RLV Reentry 7. Assessment of Alternative Methodologies for Establishing Equivalent Satisfaction of the Ec Criterion for Launch Licensing
