MISSION To plan, co-ordinate and execute a safe daytime run of SRLC's Cliff and Chasm course achieving the fastest possible time. • Syndicate Alpha Teams • Team 1 - PO Phillips & PO Barrow. • Team 2 - PO Spencer & PO West. • Team 3 - PO Burns & PO Moore. • Team 4 - PO Stark & PO Dawes. • Team 5 - PO Gill & PO Ireland & PO Lea.

  8. Phase 1 – Thorough Warm up& Briefing • Warm up conducted to prevent possible injury. • A brief given from the leader acknowledging • Team Goal • Leaders Aims • Safety Aspects • Penalties • Phases • Questions

  9. Phase 2 – The Start At the western end of the track located on the northern side of HMS COLLINGWOOD. All equipment is in the cart on starting, ready to be pushed down to the cart stop.

Phase 2 – The Start • Rules • All safety aspects satisfied before permission is received from CO. • Run will only commence when the large spar is in the ramp. • Safety • Equipment is not offloaded until phase 2 and cart is fully stopped. • Penalties • Incorrect technique or safety breach -10 secs.

  12. Phase 3 – Cart Stop Where all equipment is to be removed from the cart and taken to the third phase.

  13. Phase 3 – Cart Stop • Safety • Cart handles will rapidly rise when weight is removed. • Penalties • Safety breach -10 secs.

  15. Phase 4 – The Wall Where team members and equipment must get over. Individuals wait until all members are on the other side before proceeding towards the cliff.

Phase 4 – The Wall • Rules • Ropes may not be used to cross the wall. • Equipment can only be passed over when the landing area is clear. • Personnel are not to return to the other side. • Safety • Members on wall must straddle it. Members must be lowered face down and not to jump. • Members must be 2m away from barrel when it rises / lowers. • Penalties • Jumping off the wall -10 secs. • Safety breach -10 secs.

  18. Phase 5 – The Cliff Team members and equipment must ascend the ropes.

Phase 5 – The Cliff • Rules • The barrel must be lifted using the shackle and superline and be within control at all times. • The spar is raised using the heaving line. • Safety • Personnel remain outside the graveled area when equipment is raised. • Three points on contact are to be maintained. • Members must not step over safety pole at Cliff top. • Penalties • Equipment grounding outside safety areas -10 secs. • Failing 3 points of contact -10 secs. • Breach of safety & stepping over pole -10 secs.

  21. Phase 6 – The Chasm The Chasm is considered bottomless so to transfer the barrel, a jackstay rig is to be used.

Phase 6 – The Chasm • Rules • No entrance into Chasm once barrel is in transit. • Permission must be given. • Chasm considered 'live' or 'dead', battle grounds the team restarts. • Safety • Barrel must be under control. • The hill can be slippery in wet conditions. • Penalties • Barrel hits the front of the ramp -10 secs.

  24. Phase 7 – Hill Ascent All team members and equipment must ascend.

  25. Phase 7 – Hill Ascent • Rules • Equipment is to be carried not dragged. • Safety • A sloping path makes the ascent slippery. • No personnel are to be directly behind equipment. • Penalties • Grounding the equipment outside the safety areas -10 secs.

  26. Phase 8 – Hill Descent All team members and equipment must descend the hill.

  27. Phase 8 – Hill Descent • Rules • Equipment is to be carried not dragged. • Safety • No personnel are to be directly in front of equipment. • Penalties • Breach of safety -10 secs.

  28. Phase 9 – 2nd Hill Ascent All team members and equipment must ascend the 2nd hill.

  29. Phase 9 – 2nd Hill Ascent • Rules • Equipment is to be carried not dragged. • Safety • A sloping path makes the ascent slippery • No personnel are to be directly behind equipment. • Penalties • Grounding the equipment outside the safety areas -10 secs.

  30. Phase 10 – 2nd Hill Descent All team members and equipment must descend the 2nd hill.

  31. Phase 10 – 2nd Hill Descent • Rules • Equipment is to be carried not dragged. • Safety • No personnel are to be directly in front of equipment. • Penalties • Breach of safety -10 secs.

  32. Phase 11 – Cart Stop and Run Home To finish at the end of the cinder track. The watch will be stopped when the last member has crossed the finish line at the end.

  33. Phase 11 – Cart Stop and Run Home • Rules • Timings will stop when the last person and all pieces of equipment crosses the finish line. • Safety • Cart handles will rise rapidly when weight is added. • Penalties • Safety breach -10 secs.

  36. EXECUTION • Miscellaneous Penalties • Personnel or equipment not completing all stances -1 minute. • Swearing or obscene language -10 seconds. • Advice from Spectators -1 minute.

SUPPORT ISSUES • Dress • Denims, Boots, Course Div-Tops • Combat Jackets (Foul Weather) • Equipment • 128 feet of 32mm Polyester Superline with wire grommet attached. • 180 feet on 9mm Braidline (heaving line). • 10 feet long, 6 inch diameter spar. • AP Bow Shackle with sleeve over the pin. • Barrel weighing approximately 85lbs. • Large spar, 10 feet long, 7 inch diameter – this is to be placed in the ramp prior to commencing the evolution.

  38. COMMAND & COMMUNICATIONS • Chain of Command • 11 students within 5 Teams, led by the team leader. • CO has overall authority.

  39. SAFETY • Personal Safety • Evolution will stop by WHISTLE BLAST. • Evolution will stop by anybody shouting 'STOP'. • Equipment Safety • All equipment is to complete all phases of the course. However if the evolution is stopped, equipment is to be placed on the floor.

  40. NEXT SERIAL • All equipment is to be returned after the run. • Lunch follows at 1200 20 October 2008.
