  2. How to Unscramble • Identify the target phrase or clause. • Identify what the target is describing. • Pair the subject and verb. • Unscramble and write the sentence. • Correctly punctuate the sentence. • Underline the target phrase or clause.

How to Imitate • Copy the model. • Break the sentence into its chunks (sentence parts – phrases, etc.) • When you have sentence part options, imitate the pattern of the model. • When you are creating your own original, imitate the pattern OR imitate words. • Correctly punctuate sentence. • Underline the target phrase or clause.

  4. How to Combine • Copy the model; • Chunk it into its parts; • Combine the given sentences into a sentence that imitates the model. • Change the first sentence to resemble the first sentence part of the model • Change the second sentence to resemble the second sentence part of the model, etc.

  5. How to Combine 4. Write out the new sentence. 5. Punctuate correctly. 6. Underline the target phrase or clause.

How to Expand – Method 1 • At the slash mark, add the target phrase or clause. • Sometimes, the first words are provided and the number of words omitted from the original is noted in brackets after the slash mark. • Approximate that number. • Punctuate correctly. • Underline the target phrase or clause.

  7. How to Expand – Method 2 • Add the target phrase or clause. • It must contain at least 6 words. • Punctuate sentence correctly. • Underline target phrase or clause.
