  3. Reptiles • As animals evolved from fish to amphibians, some moved on to being reptiles

  4. Thick Skin • Reptiles have thick dry skin that prevents water from escaping the body • Reptiles must drink water and breath air into lungs

  5. Body Temperature • Most reptiles are ectothermes • Ectothermes – An animal that cannot control its body temperature

  6. Eggs • Reptile eggs are called amniotic eggs • These eggs are surrounded by a hard shell and contain yolk • These eggs will not dry out

  8. Reptiles There are 4 types of reptiles: Turtles/Tortoses, Snakes, Lizards and Tuataras

  9. Turtles and Tortoises Generally, tortoises live on land while turtles live mostly in water
