  2. Materials Needed • Notebook • Loose leaf Paper • Pen/Pencil • Highlighter • Other Materials (Handouts, etc.)

  3. Before Class • Do reading assignments/homework prior to class • Be on time • Sit toward the front of the class

  4. During Class • Board/Overhead = Write it Down!!! (If the teacher thinks it is important enough to write it on the board, you will probably see it again on a test.) • Always put the date • Use titles and subtitles

  5. During Class (continued) • Use key words/short phrases • Abbreviate when possible • Write on front of page only

  6. During Class (continued) • If you miss something, leave a blank space • Use examples • Highlight important passages in your notes

  7. After Class • Check with classmates or instructor to fill in any blanks • Reread notes as soon as possible to help ensure understanding
