  2. Since last we spoke… • 2,517support tickets addressed • Over 10 a day! • Over 12,000miles driven to member libraries • 300+ PCs newly installed, replaced, or repurposed • User-driven access to Overdrive now available • 6+ Libraries now in the Partnership Program

Since last we spoke… • Zoho Creator for SLP • 16 participating Libraries (45% increase from last year) • Over 9,000 registered users (25% increase) • Highly customized interface developed for each participating library • “I only wish we had offered to be one of your test libraries a couple summers ago.  Zoho is great!” • “ZOHA is the greatest, bestest, most fantastic thing ever invented!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

  4. The 2012 Future Directions • Windows 7 • Network Convergence and Bandwidth increase • Enterprise Wireless • Enhanced Gadget Support

Windows 7 • Server Work: • Servers Virtualized • All servers upgraded to Server 2008 R2 • New Support tools tested and in place • Staff and Patron Images • Staff Image in production at 3 libraries +HQ • All new Staff PCs will receive Windows 7 • Patron image almost ready • Security is primary concern • New tools needed for Windows 7

  6. Why Windows 7? • Software rapidly becoming obsolete • IE 9…10…11 • Firefox: Matter of when, not if • Skydrive, etc… • New SCLS Tools work with Windows 7 • Windows 8! • Deadline is April of 2014 • No More support from Microsoft • See Technology News Blog for more info

  7. Bandwidth Update • SCLS Work complete • New equipment installed • MUFN Fiber connected • WiscNetwork completed • 28 libraries receiving bandwidth increase on BadgerNet Line • TEACH approved bandwidth increase for only top 50% of libraries • Work continues throughout the summer

VPN solution • Badgernet Substitute • Utilize private ISP for network connection over Virtual Private Network (VPN) • New Core Router can handle traffic • Currently undergoing lab testing • Will be used atlibraries where Badgernet is not a viable bandwidth solution • Identifying Third-Party ISPs as partners

  9. Network Convergence • 16 Libraries completely converged • Work continues throughout summer and fall • Process: • On-site assessment • Bandwidth assessment • Cabling (if necessary) • Re-imaging of PCs • More details on Technology News Blog!

  10. Enterprise Wireless • One year into the process…. • 32libraries now on EW • Over 99.8% uptime • Moving forward… • EW will be W • W will be LW (Legacy Wireless) • Watch the TC agenda/minutes for more info

  11. Enhanced Gadget Support • Extremely popular • Only one day all year when 2 or more Gadget packages not checked out! • Two E-book Kits now available • Wide variety of models now available • Kindle Fire • Kindle Touch • Nook Touch • Etc….

Future Directions:Tech Staff and Support • Dan = Systems Administrator/Innovator • Greg= Koha Reports project Leader • Helpdesk and PC support • ALL support calls to Helpdesk—both LINK and nonLINK • New support tools for non-SCLS network PCs • All installs (ordering, imaging, installing) done by one sub-team

Future Directions: Software • Ninite Software upgrade tool • “Instant” updates of over 200 products • WSUS server • “Instant” Microsoft Updates • Antivirus • Looking at other solutions for 2013 • Office 2010 • All new staff PCs receive 2010 (with Win 7) • Roll-out to all PCs later in the year

  15. Future Directions: Software Center • New product from Microsoft • Suite of software YOU can install at will! • iTunes • Adobe Digital Editions • Snag-It • Chrome • Roll-out by end of 2012 on Windows 7 Staff PCs

Future Directions: Drupal • A new Solution for Websites with many features: • Calendars • Event Listings • RSS Feeds • Photo galleries • 3 websites now converted • Plan moving forward: • Conversion of 40+ sites to Drupal • Conversion over redesign • Training of staff • Many new features will be instantly available • Major redesigns after Drupal conversion
