A Typical Day 7:30-8:45 Start your day with breakfast . 9:00-12:00 Enjoy a morning activity such as monitoring the sea turtles or visiting a waterfall! 12:00-1:00 Lunch: While in Gandoca, lunch is included. In other cities, lunch will be on your own — your tour manager will have suggestions for you on where to eat. 1:00-6:00 Participate in another activity such as hiking through the rainforest or visiting a nearby farm! 6:30-7:30 Time for dinner. 7:30-11:00 Enjoy free time, or engage in activities arranged by your Tour Manager! ** Please note that while in Gandoca, your hours of service needed might be in evening instead of during the day

Learning Objectives Each trip includes specific Learning Objectives that are highlighted during the tour and which will help you reflect on the history and cultures of the place you are visiting. During your trip you will: • Learn about sea turtles’ nesting dynamics and get a taste of scientific field studies after actively participating in a sea turtle conservation project. • Understand the importance of a Green orientation to economic and political development in a country with a long-standing and exemplary approach to conservation and ecotourism. • Learn the way in which the intricate and often fragile interdependence of the plants and animals in a particular environment define and sustain an ecosystem.

  7. On every tour itinerary, ACIS has included Cultural Connections—interactive experiences that enable students to engage with the places, people and cultures they are visiting! Learn more about the Cultural Connections on your tour at www.acis.com/trips. • Canopy Tour — Gain a bird's-eye perspective on the many species of birds, mammals and plants that make up a rainforest. • Jauri Tropical Farm Visit — Learn about the planting and harvesting of native produce, process sugar cane and make lunch with fresh traditional ingredients at an ecological farm. • Sea Turtle Conservation Project — Participate in an important coastal-marine conservation effort and learn about the life cycle and habits of nesting sea turtles.

  8. Trip Itinerary Day 1: Flight to San Jose ¡Buen viaje!Your ACIS Tour Manager will meet you at the airport and welcome you to Costa Rica!

  9. Trip Itinerary Days 2 – 4 | Gandoca Travel to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, home of the Leatherback Turtle nesting grounds! Projects will vary depending on what the project needs are at the time.

  10. Trip Itinerary Days 5 – 6 | San Carlos View the spectacular Arenal Volcano, then dip into the waters of a local hot spring as you look up at the crimson lava flowing above!

  11. Trip Itinerary Days 7 – 8 | Samara Beach Continue on to Guanacaste and enjoy some time relaxing at the beach and exploring the rainforest!
