  2. Saturated fat • Solid at room temperature • Found in dairy products, meats. • Contributes to cholesterol

  3. Cholesterol • Fatty wax like substance • Produced in the liver • Bad diet can contribute to high levels…can lead to heart disease

  4. Lipoproteins • Carry cholesterol through bloodstream • High Density Lipoproteins (HDL) “good”, quick moving, fruits & veges Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) “bad”, slow moving, high in fat Very Low Density Lipoproteins (VLDL) “very bad”, very slow moving, very high in fat…ice cream, etc.

  5. Atherosclerosis • Too much fat can lead to heart disease • “Athero” means fat • “Sclera” means artery wall • “Osis” means fatty deposits • Athero/Scler/Osis or coronary heart disease

  6. Endarterectomy • Endarterectomy- surgical removal of the inner lining of an artery that is clogged with atherosclerosis.
