  1. MSP 1400 Paweł PilewskiPre-Sales Engineer MICROSENS GmbH & Co. KG

  2. MICROSENS Rack • 4HU, 3 large fans in the back side • Managed, replaceable fans

  3. X2G (OFX-3) • 4 SFP interfaces • 100 Mbps – 2,67 Gbps • Transparent mode • 3R on all interfaces • Internal Cross-Connect • Software selected functions • Point-to-Point, Ring, Star und meshed configurations • Ethernet, SDH/SONET, ATM, ESCON, FICON, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, Coupling Link, … Dual converter Cross-Over A-B switch A-B-C switch Add-Drop Repeater Drop & Continue

  4. T4G (OFC-4) • 4 SFP interfaces • 1 Gbps – 4,25 Gbps • Transparent mode • 3R on all interfaces • Dual converter • Point-to-Point, Ring, Star und meshed configurations • Ethernet, FICON, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, Coupling Link, … Dual converter Add-Drop Repeater

  5. M2G (TDM-2) • TDM for 2 Gigabit interfaces • Input 1,0625 / 1,25 Gbps • One card type for all port combinations • Link speed 2,55 Gbps • All interfaces standard SFP • Synchronisation channel includes Remote Inband Management • Built-in Performance Monitoring • Automatic Link-Backup enabled through SW-Key (Backup-Key) • Always „Point-to-Point“

  6. TXR / TXG (XCM-2 / XCM-3) • Single port converter for 10 Gbps • Repeater for 10 Gbps • Both interfaces use XFP • 3R on both ports (XCM-2) • All standard 10G speeds per can be selected by SW parameter: Ethernet, SDH/SONET, Fibre Channel • Supports tunable XFP

  7. OM1 (OPM-2) • Optical Power Level monitoring device • Full Duplex (Tx/Rx) • Single Lambda, CWDM, DWDM • Power Level range +20 dBm up to -40 dBm • Resolution 0,1 dB • Software definable alarm levels • No active parts in the link • No data monitoring possible • Link attenuation only 0,5 dB • Link Monitoring • Intrusion Detection • QoS documentation

  8. EM1 (OAM-2) • Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) • Amplification without O-E-O conversion • Based on OM1 • Booster or Pre-Amp • Booster: input -25 up to +2 dBm output -5 up to +17 dBm • Pre-Amp: input -32 up to -3 dBm output -7 up to +17 dBm • DWDM C-Band (1528-1563nm) • Optimal Gain 20 dB • Automatic Gain • 1 Module for 1 Fiber • Second Fiber is looped through and measured

  9. Recently seen in the City FiberMonitor Bend coupler: When uncoated fiber (as present within a splice cassette) is tightly bend, some light cannot make the total reflection and escapes the fiber. At this point a sensitive photo detector is located. The light is further amplified and then ready for processing...

  10. Tapping at the splice cassette

  11. Typical Optical Budget Budget reserves are good and bad: • All fiber links have some margin for additional attenuation • This is generally good practice to be on the safe side • However, this margin is not managed and this results in a weak spot when it comes to early fiber issue detection 0 dBm Transmit Power Level -1 dBm 16 dB Planned fiber budget -10 dBm Receive Power Level -17 dBm 9 dB 3 dB Planned system reserve Error rate 10-12 Minimum Receive Power sensitivity -20 dBm Hidden system reserve. Actual power level in this regiondoes not trigger alarm. Bit errors are protocol recovered. Error rate 10-10 SFP „Loss of Signal“ threshhold -26 dBm Error rate 10-3

  12. Protection Scenarios • Do nothing – nothing will happen • Not a real option • Detect „whether“ something happens • Cost effective solution to detect changes in fiber attenuation • Detect „where“ something happens • This solution detects changes in the fiber with exact localisation. • Foil the spy activities • The most secure method is the encryption of data • Encryption with up to 10Gbit/s rate.

  13. OM1 (OPM-2) Optical Fiber Monitoring Module • Accurate power level measurement • Two independent channel (Tx / Rx) • Low insertion loss of about 0.5dB • independent of data rates or applications in use • Measures live fiber • WDM and 10G compatible • Available as Stand-Alone unit • LC connector version other connectors upon request • Development and production in Germany

  14. OM1 Details in NMP Upper threshold Lower threshold Maximum power input Current value Lower threshold Module temperature How long and how often above upper threshold Time since last threshold violation How long and how often below lower threshold

  15. Application example segment measurement Task: • Two different fiber carriers are interconnected to form a link • Rapid diagnostic • Clear and fast resolution in which fiber segment the problem occurred • Independent of the application and possible use of WDM • Low financial budget Low Level at A: local customer error Low level at B (and C): Provider 1 error Low level just at C: Provider 2 error C OM1 Carrier 2 Carrier 1 OM1 OM1 B A

  16. CipherPilot Layer 2 Encryption • Safeguards your data against espionage. • May be used with Dark Fiber, WDM and Ethernet links. • CipherPilots are available for all common protocol types such as ATM, SDH/SONET, Ethernet and Fibre Channel. • Encryption takes place with the highest commercially available encryption grade of 256 Bit AES (automatic key change every minute).

  17. Key Functions CipherPilot Platform • Tamper proof enclosure: The 256 bit host key must be safe under all circumstances. Therefore, the unit is designed to forget its key as as the cover is opened. • SNMP V2c / V3: Read only function. With V3 these management data are encrypted • Automatic Keychange: Even if the data where tapped and even if the key would be known only the data for one minute could be decoded ! • All important protocols available: Despite a heterogeneous topology the customer needs only products from one supplier. • High data rate: The CipherPilot 400 encrypts 10G data in real time with minimal latency. A short while ago such performance would have been unthinkable. • Automatic operation: After the quite easy initial installation no further attention is required. Even after a cable break or power up the key synchronization is automatic
