  3. Is a decline in --------- Rotary Club membership the problem or a symptom?

  4. What is the purpose for the existence of the -------------- Rotary Club?

  5. The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular to encourage and foster:

  6. FIRST: The Development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. SECOND - High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

  7. THIRD - The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life. FOURTH - The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

  8. Why Do People Join???

  9. >5 years: Networking, developing business and leadership skills 5-20 years: Connecting with their community and providing service to others. 20+ years: Friendships

  10. Key Principles: People join and stay in Rotary for their reasons, not yours. Their fundamental reasons are emotional, which are, in turn, intellectually justified.

  11. Why Do People Leave???

  12. Three Options: 1. Club is not doing enough to meet member’s fundamental needs. 2. Club is doing enough but current and prospective members don’t see it. 3. Club is not attracting those people whose needs can be met by the club.
