  1. The Student Leadership Conference Training today’s Leaders for a successful tomorrow Prepared by Ebony Calvin

  2. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing, and CAB! As a student organization it is important to have ample funding to successfully recruit members and host programs. A student organization’s allocated budget is only the beginning of the money you can utilize. Fundraising, Special Allocation, and the Campus Activities Board (CAB)are essential parts of obtaining programming money for your organization.

  3. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing, and CAB! Fundraising 101 • Goals and Purpose • Planning and Execution • Conclusion and Evaluation • Examples CAB Proposals • Overview and Benefit • Funding Limitations • Application Requirements • Presentation to CAB

  4. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing and CAB! Fundraising 101: Goals and Purpose Before you have the members of the organization run home and bake hundreds of cupcakes, you should first determine the goal and purpose of your fundraiser. Your goal should not be to just make money, but you should establish a set target amount you need to raise. Talk this over with your executive board and determine a realistic goal.

  5. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing and CAB! Fundraising 101: Plan and Execution After you have determined your target, you need to decide how you plan to reach that goal. What type of fundraiser will you do? • Talk to your members and get their opinions on what they believe will work the best. The more you involve all your members the more they will buy into the idea. • Get Creative! How many bake sales can you possibly see in a year? Do something that will spark the interest of the entire campus.

  6. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing and CAB! Fundraising 101: Plan and Execution How will you make a profit? • Determine your expenses. If you are selling flowers for Valentine’s Day, how much will the flowers cost you? • How much must you earn to break even? Determine how much each member must raise to reach your goal.

  7. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing and CAB! Fundraising 101: Plan and Execution Time, Date, and Location • What is(are) the best day(s) of the week to target the most people? What time(s) is(are) the most people on campus? • Try to plan fundraisers that accommodate the schedules of commuters and resident students to maximize your profit.

  8. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing and CAB! Fundraising 101: Plan and Execution Be Successful • Do one fundraiser at a time! Although it may seem that doing more than one fundraiser at a time would generate more money, this is not the case. Having your organization do one fundraiser and do it well will increase your success. • Create excitement in your group. If your group is motivated and excited the better the outcome will be. • Throughout the fundraiser make business-like decisions. Remember you are trying to make a profit; continue to make decisions that will keep your target attainable.

  9. Fundraising Ideas, Proposal Writing and CAB! Conclusion • After your fundraiser deposit all funds into your earned income. • Assess your results to see if you achieved your goal. • Thank all participants for their hard work and dedication. Examples • Raffles • Car washes • Student/Faculty Talent Show • Dance-a-Thon • Ice-cream social • What are some of your idea?
