Intrapersonal Communication What is Intrapersonal Communication ? • Self-talk / self-dialogue • Communication with yourself SOURCES of BEHAVIOR: • Values: your ideas of what is good or bad • Beliefs: what you believe is true • Attitudes: specific applications of your values/beliefs • Feelings: your emotional responses to events, people & places

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Self Actualization: fully satisfied (morality, creativity, problem solving, job, $, charity, family, friends, religion, home) Self Esteem: Self-concept, respect of self & others Social: friends, groups, family Security: home, safety, $, job, health Physical: food, water, sleep, breathing

  4. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs • To be a fully satisfied person, all needs must be met (in correct order) • You cannot meet the higher level needs until the basic needs have been satisfied.
