Find Books and Media - Catalog • What is the Books and Media Catalog? • A searchable index of all Mercy Libraries’ books and other materials (CDs, DVDs, videos, e-books, etc.) • When do I Use It? • To find the above – NOT articles • Check your borrower record • Requires CWID username and password • See status of items check out, fines • Renew books

Find Articles - Databases • What is a database? • A collection of electronic records in a standardized format, searchable in a variety of ways, such as title, author, subject, and keyword – general (ProQuest) or subject-specific (OT Search) • When Do I Use It? • To find articles on a topic, subject, person, country, etc. in a newspaper, magazine, or journal • Organization of Databases • Subject • Alphabetical Off Campus Access Requires Your Mercy Connect Username and Password

Where is It? • What is Where is It? • This icon (in Databases and Journal Locator) provides access to all places where an article is available in full text or the Mercy Libraries Print Holdings, as well as links to the Interlibrary Loan request forms when the article is not available • When Do I Use It? • When an “Article” link is not available, click on the Where is It? icon If an “Article” link is present, click on it for the full text If a “Database” link is present, click on it for the full text If an “Interlibrary Loan” link appears, select it to request the item

Find Journals - Journal Locator • What is the Journal Locator? • A searchable index of all Mercy Libraries’ periodicals, with links to full text articles when available, as well as links to information on Mercy Libraries print holdings • When Do I Use It? • To find a newspaper, magazine or journal that Mercy owns or has access to

System loan • What is System Loan? • A peer-to-peer borrowing system among all five Mercy campus libraries • When Do I Use It? • If you find a book and an article that is NOT owned by your Mercy home campus: • Take the information to the circulation desk (no online form) • Complete the System Loan form • Await a call or an email from the circulation staff • This process takes approximately 2-3 days

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) • What is Interlibrary Loan? • A peer-to-peer borrowing system among libraries, in the Westchester/New York State area, as well as nationwide • When Do I Use It? • If you need a book and an article that is NOT owned by any of the Mercy libraries: • Complete the online Interlibrary Loan form • Hit the submit button (you should receive a verification) • Await an email from the interlibrary loan staff • This process takes approximately 3-10 days

Google Scholar • What is Google Scholar? • Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. • When Do I Use It? • After you have exhausted your Mercy Library resources and still need more Google is Where you End Your Research, not Begin

RefWorks • What is RefWorks? • A Bibliographic Management System that allows you to: • create personal databases and use them for a variety of research activities • quickly and easily import data from online databases, through RSS feeds or via the web (Google Scholar) • generate formatted bibliographies (reference lists) instantly • Share information amongst colleagues at Mercy or elsewhere • Alumni Accounts available • When Do I Use It? • To save, organize, share and store data for future use

PubMed also provides access to additional relevant web sites and links to the other NCBI molecular biology resources.  PubMed is a free resource that is developed and maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
