  2. Needs can be classified according to a hierarchal structure of importance, from the lowest to the highest

  3. Theory of Human Needs (Maslow)

  4. The principle object of management should be to secure maximum prosperity for the employer coupled with the maximum prosperity for the employee

  5. Scientific Management

  6. Managers have 5 functions: Plan, Organize, Command, Coordinate, Control

  7. Administrative Approach

  8. Henri Foyal defined 14 principles he felt should be taught to all managers. They include: Authority, discipline, order, etc

  9. Administrative Approach

  10. Douglas McGregor came up with these 2 theories. One of these theories, assumes that people dislike work, and prefer to be led. The other theory assumes people are willing to work, and are self directed. The latter is the theory that McGregor says should be adopted.

  11. Theory X and Theory Y

  12. This theory helped shift the attention of managers from the technical and structural concerns to a new version where employees feelings, attitudes, and relationships with co-workers affect their work

  13. Hawthorne Studies

  14. This theory is founded on logic, order, and legitimate authority

  15. Bureaucratic Organization

  16. This theory talks about “motion study” which is the science of reducing a task to its basic physical motions

  18. This theory discusses the need of self actualization, which involves creativity and problem solving

  19. Theory of Human needs (Maslow)

  20. In this theory, Mary Parker Follett discusses how if employees become part owner of an organization, they will have feelings of collective responsibility

  22. In this approach, there is a very clear hierarchy of authority

  24. In this theory, there are very formal rules and procedures

  25. Bureaucratic

  26. This theory states that work group norms affect productivity

  28. This theory states that people in the workplace are mature adults and may react negatively when constrained by strict management practices and rigid organizational structures

  29. Argyrsis’s theory of adult personality
