  2. Internal and External Conflict An INTERNAL CONFLICT takes place entirely within a character’s own mind. An EXTERNAL CONFLICT is when a character struggles against an outside force. Example: Internal: Person versus self Example: External:Person versus Person, Person versus nature Person versus Society
