  2. Margaret Bourke-White Margaret Bourke-White (1904–1971) was an American photographer who gained fame for traveling around the world and snapping photographs for high-profile magazines. As the first American female war photojournalist, her photographs earned her a spot on the cover of Life magazine and can be viewed to this day in museums nationwide, as well as the Library of Congress. This short biography of her life describes some of the challenges she faced and feats she accomplished throughout her career.

  3. Background 01 Born in NYC, Margaret Bourke-White attended Clarence H. White School of Photography in pursuit of a photography career. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio she opened her own studio and concentrated mainly on industrial photography. Her photos began to attract the attention of Fortune Magazine. She became the first female photographer to travel to the Soviet Union and capture images of industry. Thus began her career as a photojournalist.
