  5. Submit a Tip Electronically at www.1800242HEAT.COM • Provides the same level of confidentiality as calling in a tip. • A control number is assigned once you click on the “Submit Form” button.

  6. Tip Transfer & Review • All tip information is sent electronically to the Michigan State Police for review. Call Center or Online User Michigan State Police

  7. Tip Assignment • The Michigan State Police assigns the tip based on the jurisdiction of the crime.

  8. Tip Investigation Opens • Law enforcement follows up on the tipster’s information. The tipster will not be contacted during the investigation process unless he/she has given permission.

  9. Results of the Investigation • Law enforcement submits the results of the investigation to HEAT. • Tipsters should allow 30 days after the tip is made before checking on the status.

  10. Eligible Tipsters • If an arrest is made and law enforcement determines that the tipster’s information was helpful, the tipster is eligible for a reward.
