  1. Welcome to Parent Orientation First Grade 2010-2011

Arrival and Dismissal • Students may arrive as early as 7:30am • Students will be dismissed to classrooms at 7:50 • The tardy bell rings at 8:05 • Students are dismissed at 3:20 • Car riders sit in grade levels lines in the cafeteria • Parents may walk in the cafeteria to pick students up from the “walk-up” line on the west side of the cafeteria. • Bus and daycare riders leave from the front of the school. • YMCA students meet in the cafeteria

  3. M.O.O.S.E. Binder • Management Of Organizational Skills Everyday • Students should bring a MOOSE binder back and forth from school every day • Please check for papers in the “Stay at Home” folder • Any notes or papers you need to send to school should go in the “Back and Forth” folder • Behavior Charts and Homework will also be kept in the MOOSE binder

  4. Behavior Chart • Green- a great day! • Yellow- an okay day/a warning • Orange- 5 minutes out of recess and a note home • Red- 10 minutes out of recess and a note home • Any further problems will be documented with an office referral and a phone call home.

  6. R.I.O.T. Reading Instead Of Television • Each month you will receive a calendar to record the minutes your child reads. • Each month every child who reads and documents 240 minutes will participate in an extra recess. • Children who participate EVERY month will receive a trophy at the Spring Awards Ceremony.

  7. Homework 20 minutes of reading each night Reading activities can include: • Reading take home books • Practicing sight words • Reading a book from home • Writing a response the reading log Your child will need to record the date and title of the book he or she reads in a reading log each night. You and your child may also write a response to the book.

Word Boxes • what • Help our students learn sight words • Please keep the box at home to practice until your child is ready to “test” on the entire level. • Your child will receive a Starbuck for each level completed. When he or she completes the 5th level, a prize will be awarded! with they I am

  9. Students may bring a snack to eat During announcements (10:00am) Healthy Snacks Unhealthy Snacks • Fruits or vegetables • Cheese • Crackers • Fruit Snacks • Chips • Cookies • Candy • Cakes/cupcakes

  10. Birthdays • We celebrate each child’s birthday as a class. If you wish to bring something for your child’s classmates, feel free to bring small items such as pencils, erasers, or small toys that cost less than $5 total. Due to the laws preventing foods of minimal nutritional value, we cannot allow parents to bring any type of food to share. • Invitation policy
