Mission Statement The purpose of the Booster Club is to support, encourage and aid all Illinois High School Association (IHSA) sport teams and athletic clubs at the Metea Valley High School, with the purpose of enriching the high school experience of all participants, spectators, and supporters of the School’s athletic programs.   18. NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER 9th grade - Plan 10th grade - Register Register at eligibilitycenter.org at the beginning of your sophomore year. If you fall behind on courses, do not take shortcuts to catch up. Your counselor can help you by finding approved courses or programs that you can take. • You should start planning now by working hard to earn the best grades possible. • Ask your counselor for a list of your school’s NCAA core courses to make sure you are taking NCAA-approved courses. • Your school’s list of NCAA courses can be found at eligibilitycenter.org

  19. NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER 11th grade - Study 12th grade - Graduate Take the ACT or SAT again, if necessary, and make sure to send your scores by using code 9999. Request your final amateurism certification after April 1. After you graduate, ask you counselor to upload your transcript with proof of graduation. • Students should check with their counselor to make sure they are on track to graduate on time. • Students should register to take the ACT, SAT or both. Use the NCAA Eligibility Center code “9999” as a score recipient. • At the end of the year, send your transcripts to the NCAA.

Core Course Requirements Division 1 • 16 Core Courses • 4 years English. • 3 years math (Algebra I or higher). • 2 years natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school). • 1 year additional English, math or natural/physical science. • 2 years social science. • 4 years additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or comparative religion/philosophy). Division 2 • 16 Core Courses • 3 years English. • 2 years math (Algebra I or higher). • 2 years natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school). • 3 years additional English, math or natural/physical science. • 2 years social science. • 4 years additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or comparative religion/philosophy).

Core Course Requirements Division 3 • Unlike Divisions I and II, there is no uniform set of eligibility requirements for Division III schools. • Eligibility for admission, financial aid, practice and competition is determined by the college or university. • The NCAA Eligibility Center does not perform certifications for Division III college-bound student-athletes.

  23. Coaches Roles and Responsibilities • Coaches understand scope of legal responsibilities that come with a coaching position • Treat the students in a professional manner. Language and communication should be respectful and appropriate • The well being of our student-athletes will always be our #1 priority

Coaches Roles and Responsibilities • Document and communicate with all stakeholders any injuries that receive medical interventions • Communication with parents, athletes on cancellations, reschedules, events are done professionally and in a timely manner • Promotes an attitude of hard work, pursuit of goals, positive attitude and good sportsmanship • TEACH them well and TREAT them well!

  26. Expectations ofMVHS Athletes ACADEMICS FIRST • Eligibility • Checked every week on Monday morning. • Must be passing 5 classes. • Spring eligibility • Eligibility is based on 1st Semester grades. • MUST have passed 5 classes.

Expectations ofMVHS Athletes • Code of Conduct Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Free Discipline Varies on # of violations and type of violation Attend a party with drugs or alcohol and it IS a violation of the code of conduct • Integrity Doing what is right Decision Making • No Hazing or Bullying of other athletes / peers Will NOT be tolerated

Expectations ofMVHS Athletes • Social Media Use…. • PLEASE BE CAREFUL of all Social Media posts! • Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat • Awareness of: • The amount of people that can see it. • Who those people are and what they can do with that information. • Media Outlets, Coaches, College Coaches, Employers, Parents, and other opponents etc. • College Admissions are now paying attention…. • Athletics Twitter accounts • @meteaathletics

  29. Responsibility of Student-Athlete • Representation of the School. In the classroom, in the hallways, in the community, and on the playing field. • Focus on Academics- Classroom first. • Excellence • Being on time for class, shaking hands, eye contact, doing things that exemplify leadership. • Respectful - Respect for your opponents, coaches, teammates (NO HAZING), officials, and facilities. • Communication – Consistently, accurately and appropriately Athletes can control their Effort and Attitude!

  31. What to do when your Athlete gets injured See the Athletic Trainer first! Urgent care/Emergency room Illnesses (flu, higher grade fever, strep, migraines, skin rashes, irregular blisters/cuts) Suspected broken bones Severe pain or uncontrollable bleeding Severe allergic reaction Severe Heart & chest pain Severe Ashthma or breathing issues **If at MVHS, Notify ATs first so we can assist!** • Muscle strains • Ligament sprains • bone bruises • Lingering pain/discomfort • Acute injury (ie- fall, slip, rolled ankle etc) • Suspected concussion* **We can help refer to appropriate Doctor!** *Concussions must be cleared by a physician *71% of ER visits are unnecessary & avoidable

CONCUSSIONS – RETURN TO PLAY PROTOCOL • By Law, we must pull an athlete out of contest if they present with any of the concussion signs & symptoms • A doctor’s clearance is NECESSARY & we need a note!! • Once 100% symptom free & clears the Return to Learn Protocol, the athlete will repeat their IMPACT test & proceed with the Return to play protocol with us: • Day 1:20 min Bike • Day 2: 20 min Jog/run • Day 3: agilities (ladders, jumps, cuts) • Day 4: non-contact practice • Day 5: normal practice • Day 6: cleared for games • *If suspected concussion on Friday, athlete will be OUT for at minimum ONE full week

INJURIES + COMMUNICATION • Emphasize to all athletes that they MUST REPORT any injuries to us the day they occur as well as you • If over the weekend, report to us on Monday after school • If at an away event, report to us the next day or the coach can via email/text • If an athlete sees a doctor at any point, they MUST get a NOTE stating if they are CLEARED, RESTRICTED or OUT. Not until they are cleared, can they return to practice. • Any emails/notes/information regarding a athlete’s status or injury, please keep us in the loop • ASTHMA • Make sure you know which athletes have asthma • THEY MUST HAVE THEIR INHALER AT ALL TIMES (practice and games) OR THEY MAY NOT COMPETE!! • Other condition • Diabetes • Sickle Cell • Food allergies

CONCUSSIONS • By Law, we must pull an athlete out of contest if they present with any of the concussion signs & symptoms • Headache, dizziness, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, sensitivity to noise, nausea, etc. • Athletes while be under a physicians care and will be placed into the Return to Learn Protocol • Once symptom free, completion of RTL and return to baseline on their IMPACT test they will proceed with RTP protocol: • Bike • R un • Agility • I “in red” aka non-contact • Normal practice • Game • Athlete must be symptom-free at each stage to proceed to the next

  36. More on Concussions Please note that even with a Doctor’s clearance note, all athletes must still complete the four step return to play protocol.

Communication with Coaches (Brochure) • E-mails, Facebook, etc… • Informational Only • If it’s not informational we would like a meeting or phone call • Please keep in mind that the coaches are… • 1st – Family Members – a husband, wife, parent, sibling, etc… • 2nd – Teachers – this is their career, passion and 1st responsibility • 3rd – Coaches – this is an additional part of their teaching day • We ask that communication to anyone from the athletic department is done in a professional manner

Communication with Coaches (Brochure) We encourage you to follow the guidelines listed with communication with coaches: • 24 hour rule • Protocol for communication with coaches… • 1 – Have your son or daughter talk to the coach first • “Have you talked to the coach about this?” • 2 - Contact the level coach to set up a meeting with the level coach, son or daughter and yourself • 3 – Meeting with Athletic Director, head coach, level coach, son or daughter and yourself
