  3. Why do individuals choose NOT to use Twitter? • Not quite sure what Twitter is • Do not know how to use Twitter • Overwhelming • Not easy to follow/find people you know • Do not have the time • Do not have anything to offer • 140 characters is too short of a message

  4. Creating a Twitter Account • www.twitter.com • Click “Sign up” • Enter your name and phone/email and password • Click "Sign Up“ • Enter your phone number • Click “Next” • You will get a verification code through text – enter that number • Click “Verify”

  5. Choose your username -- short and easy • Click “Next” • Click “Let’s Go” • What interests you? • Type topics in the “search box” • Click “Continue” • You can choose to import your contacts through email • Click either “import contacts” or “no thanks”

  6. Make Your Timeline Yours • This will now prompt you to follow other people or organizations • Deselect or select all • Notifications • Click “Not now”

  7. Welcome to Twitter • Welcome Home! • This timeline is where you’ll spend most of your time, getting instant updates about what matters to you • Click “Next”

  8. Tweets not working for you? • What does this mean? • To follow someone: • Hover over the profile picture and click “follow” • To unfollow someone: • Hover over the profile picture and click “unfollow” • Click “Next”

  9. LIKE - Say a lot with a little • When you see a Tweet you like, tap the “heart” – it lets the person who wrote it know you shared the love. • Click “Next”

  10. RETWEET - Spread the word • The fastest way to share someone else’s Tweet with your followers is with a Retweet. Tap the Retweet icon to sent it instantly. • Click “Next”

  11. REPLY – Join the conversation • Add your thoughts about any Tweet with a “reply”. Find a topic you’re passionate about and jump right in! • Click “Next”

  12. # - HASHTAG – Learn the latest • Get instant insight into what people are talking about now • Ex. #PinedaleSummit16 or #CDSLS15 • Click “Next”

  13. WHO TO FOLLOW – Get more of what you love • Follow more accounts to get instant updates about topics you care about • There will be a “who to follow” window that gives you recommendations for you to follow. • If you are interested, click “Follow” • Click “Next”

  14. SEARCH – Find what’s happening • See the latest conversations about any topic instantly • Magnifying glass – Mobile devices • Search bar - Computers • Click “Next”

  15. MOMENTS – Never miss a moment • Catch up instantly on the best stories happening as they unfold • Real time current event stories • Click on “Me” icon to exit current events • Click “Got It”

DASHBOARD ICONS Home – Takes your to your news feed (people who you follow Tweets) Notifications – When others mention you in a Tweet, retweet a Tweet that you wrote or like a Tweet you wrote Moments – Current events Messages – Personal message between you and one other person that cannot be seen by others Me – Profile

  17. Editing Your Profile • Click “Edit Profile” • Computer • Click “Home” • Click on “Name” • Click “Edit Profile” • Mobile Device • Click “Me” icon • Click “Edit Profile” button in the right hand corner

Change your “Header Photo” • Update your “Profile Photo” if needed • Write your “Bio” underneath your profile picture • Think about the reasons why you are wanting to use Twitter • Think about the people you would like to connect with • Use keywords which will make you easier to find when people search - I.E. “Physical Education” • Adding your location, will help you identify other professionals nearby • Add your website, if you have one • Click “Save Changes”

Difference between # and @ • # are topics or events • @ are individuals or organizations • Both can be used in a tweet • Broader Mentions • Put ANYTHING before @handlename (most use a . because it is the least obvious), tweet goes directly to who is following @handlename + goes onto the followers boards as if their handle name was used • WITHOUT anything before @handlename, it goes to followers news feed

  24. 140 Characters Is Not Enough! • Twitterstorm • To indicate tweets are meant to be read together, users will include “1/2” and “2/2” to let followers know there is more than a single tweet • Twitter’s Threaded Conversations Feature • Write first tweet of series • Reply to your own tweet • Twitter will then pre-populate a tweet starting with your username for you • You can then delete your username to have a full 140 characters to write • Once you have posted all your tweets, Twitter will display them grouped together in a threaded conversation
