  3. My Heart is not haughty (1) • Humility, not lofty eyes • God and pride – Proverbs 6:17, 21:2-4; 1 Peter 5:5 • Matthew 5:3, where saving faith begins • James 4:10

  4. My Heart is not haughty (1) • Nor do I concern myself with great matters • Acts of greatness. The haughty want to be recognized. • What was different between Saul and David? • Naaman 2 Kings 5:10-12 • The scribes and Pharisees Matthew 23:5-7, 6:2, 5, 16

  7. My Heart is not haughty (1) • Nor with things too profound for me • David probably speaking of things in God’s control and out of his. Psalm 139:6 • Romans 11:33, the depth of the riches of God’s wisdom and knowledge… • Deuteronomy 29:29, the secret things belong to Him

  8. My Heart is not haughty (1) • Nor with things too profound for me • This does not change the simplicity of what we do know and are expected to do. • Matters of salvation and living are generally simple to understand. It is the applying of such things that is difficult!

  9. My Heart is not haughty (1) • Nor with things too profound for me • Such matters cause some to twist scripture2 Peter 3:16 • 2 Corinthians 11:3, Paul’s concern that they be corrupted from the simplicity in Christ • Job 42:3, Job’s repentance • Let us simply accept His word! 2 Timothy 3:16-17

A calmed and quiet soul (2) • A soul calm and quieted • When one humbles himself before God and accepts that He is in control, it can calm the soul and bring contentment. • Composed - Philippians 4:6, cf. Matthew 6:25-34, don’t worry • Content – 1 Timothy 6:6-8, Hebrews 13:5, 2 Corinthians 9:8

  11. A calmed and quiet soul (2) • Like a weaned child • Become as little children, Matthew 18:2-5 • David was “weaned” of anxiety. He had learned to trust God in trying circumstances. Even in his youth and early adulthood. • Do we have that type of trust in God?

  12. A calmed and quiet soul (2) • Hope in the LORD • Israel called upon to hope – a frequent theme in the psalms • We are here because of our hope, we are “the hope of Israel” Acts 28:20, Eph. 2:12-13 • Our hope Proverbs 13:12 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Romans 15:4-6

  13. A calmed and quiet soul (2) • From now on and forever more • Resolve that this is a real change! • Romans 6:3-6 • Romans 12:1-2 • Romans 6:14
