  1. Daily Announcements Today is Wednesday, FEB 5, 2014an “X” day.

  2. Any Student that received a letter for an expedited retake in Biology should report to the library, today, Wednesday morning, after announcements.

  3. SHS will have Saturday School Sat. Feb. 8 & Sat. Feb 15.  Pick up a blue form in the main office with Miss Kelsey if you would like to come.  The blue form must be submitted in order to come to Saturday school.

  4. Black History“An American Story: Courage & Strength” Want a Free Movie Ticket? Celebrate Black History Month by Playing Black History Trivia February is Black History Month: If you’d like a free ticket to the Fredericksburg’s movies, answer the question on the following slide: Put your answer in the Red, Green, and Black Box in the main office.

  5. Black History“An American Story: Courage & Strength” African Americans have made contributions all over the world. Consequently, Black history is not only celebrated in America, but other countries as well. Name 2 countries (other than America) that celebrate Black History Month, and name the months as well. The drawing will be Thursday. The winner will be announced on Friday. Put answers in the box outside the main office.

  6. SADD/YOVASO Mission Possible campaign has kicked off! Look for our table set up in the cafeteria to take a short survey and be entered in to win a PRIZES! Also keep your eyes and ears open next week for the mystery missions to win MORE PRIZES!!! Prizes include: gift cards, goodie bags and candy!!!!  

  7. NO MORE PARKING PASSES THERE ARE NO MORE PARKING PASSES AVAILABLE FOR THE 2ND SEMESTER! STUDENTS WHO HAVE RENEWED THEIR PERMITS MUST HAVE THEM IN THEIR CARS BY TODAY, TUESDAY, FEB 4, 2014

  8. Did you travel over winter break? Then, the yearbook is interested in photos of students who traveled over winter break. Bring them to W206, Mrs. Gill’s room. It will go in the yearbook.

  9. Time Passes…will you? According to State Guidelines, in order to receive credit for a class, you must physically be in class a certain amount of time. Miss 15 times or more, (excused or unexcused) you will not receive credit for the class. If you need to make up the time, come to Saturday School. Anyone can attend but you MUST SIGN UP! See Miss Kelsey in the Main Office for more info

  12. Congratulations SHS Girls Swim TeamConference Champions Girls that placed in the top three for their events were:  Maggie Howell, Colleen Kleveno, Lexi Osleger, Julianne Rogers, Rachel Showers, Kara Sizemore and Ryan Ulrich

  13. Congratulations SHS Boys Swim Teamfor placing 5th in the Conference! Top Boys were: Billy Howell, Matt Hopkins, Caleb McAllister, and Chris Vaughan. These team members will represent Stafford at Regionals in Norfolk on February 14 !

University of Mary Washington • is hosting‘Completing the FAFSA with a Financial Aid Professional’ • sessions on Saturday, 2/8 at 11:30 am, Saturday, 2/15 at 11:30 am, Thursday, 2/19 at 6:00 pm, and Thursday, 2/26 at 6:00 pm.  More information and registration may be found on our website at http://adminfinance.umw.edu/financialaid/2013/10/28/free-workshop-completing-the-fafsa/. An email reminder will be sent to registered students with parking instructions and information to be brought to the session.

  16. AP EXAM Fees Pick up your AP Exam Order form in the Counseling Center, Governor's School, or in Mrs. Ritchey's office. Bring your order form with your payment to the AP table set up outside the front office .  Mrs. Ritchey and Ms. Bliss will be collecting AP money at this table before and after school.  AP Teachers will not be collecting exam fees or order forms. All AP Exam fees are due by February 28, 2014.

  22. Free Financial Aid (cont.) This program is designed for college-bound high-school students and their parents and will be held on the Fredericksburg campus of the University of Mary Washington in George Washington Hall, Dodd Auditorium. Parking is available in the George Washington lot, Double Drive, and along College Avenue. Visit the UMW website for directions. No registration is required. The event is free and open to the public.   25. The count down begins to the newest sport at SHS! In just three weeks Girls lacrosse will officially come to Stafford.  Tryouts will begin on Monday, Feb. 24.  Girls must have physical and forms completed in order to try out.  During this week, girls lacrosse will have conditioning after-school on Tuesday and wed.  Conditioning will end at 4:00.

  28. Volleyball Anyone? Any Student interested in playing volleyball next year their will be a parent/player meeting on February 20 @ 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Come meet the new coaches and get information on open gyms, a little about the program and summer league.

Crazy Hat Day • Leo Club is partnering with FCCLA to hold a Crazy Hat Day on Tuesday, Feb 11 to support children's cancer research. • To participate, you must purchase a wristband for $1 from Chef Sussman in N-112 or Mrs. Garnett in room N-114. • Bracelets and hats must be worn together.  All hats must comply with SHS dress code.  No other head coverings are permitted.

  35. Micah Ministries Sock Tree Key Clubbers: The Micah Ministries sock tree is up on the Key Club board.  Please bring in a package of men's white socks and add your name to the tree.  Socks should come in by February 14th.

Here are a few responses: Logan- “ Sit there or ask them to slow down depending on the road.” Lexi- “Ask them to stop speeding, if they won’t, I would ask them to let me out and call my parents.” Morgan- “ Tell them they are speeding, slow down you are going to get a ticket” Lizzy- “ Tell them how much they are over the speed limit and then tell them I see a cop.” Lillie- “Cry”

Did you know that in 2012 • 45% of fatal accidents involving teens was speed related? • Or… 46% (32) of teens killed in VIRGINIA were unrestrained? • 100 teens between the ages of 16-20 were involved in FATAL crashes? • And out of the 100, 83 were KILLED? 72% were males • Did you notice I said WERE not are?
