  2. Volunteer Procedures Please call your child’s teacher to determine if help is needed. All parent volunteers should arrange time with the teacher in order to maximize instructional time. Attend Volunteer Orientation or on-line course once available Complete a chaperone application if interested in attending field trips

  5. COSTS • The cost of all 3 field trips will be $90 for students. • All field trips have deposit deadlines, so we are asking for payment by October 15, 2012. ($30)

PASS Testing • PASS = Palmetto Assessment of State Standards • The PASS is administered to South Carolina public and charter school students in grades three through eight. • PASS includes tests in five subject areas: writing, English language arts (reading and research), mathematics, science, and social studies. • PASS test items measure student performance on the South Carolina Academic Standards. • PASS test results are used for school, district, and federal (No Child Left Behind) accountability purposes. • Third Grade students take Reading and Research, Writing, Math, and Science OR Social Studies • We are not told which students will take Science and Social Studies

  8. Tips for Parents Parents can help children with test-taking preparation. Do’s: • Encourage your child to do his/her best. • Provide a quiet place for studying at home. • Make sure your child attends school regularly. • Meet with teachers and ask for activities that you and your child can do at home to prepare for tests. • Make sure your child gets adequate sleep. A tired child is less able to pay attention or handle the demands of testing. • Give your child well-balanced meals. Rest, exercise, and eating well are important for test-taking. Don’ts: • Get upset because of a single test score. Test scores are not perfect measures of what your child can do. • Place so much emphasis on your child’s test scores. Too much pressure can upset your child and influence test performance. • Schedule appointments during testing week.
