Location, Location, Location • Bale Elementary School is centrally located in Little Rock, Arkansas, and serves the Broadmoor and Boyle Park neighborhoods. • Local information resources include: two public libraries within three miles of Bale, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, ITT Technical Institute, Little Rock Zoo, William J. Clinton Presidential Center, Old State House Museum, Historic Arkansas Museum, Arkansas Arts Center, EMOBA (The Museum of Black Arkansans and Performing Arts Center), 52 city parks, Pinnacle Mountain State Park and many other attractions.

A Little About the People of Little Rock • Population 188,600 • 52% Caucasian • 41% African-American • 5% Hispanic • 2% Asian • Among people 25 and older: • 11% did not complete twelfth grade • 23% graduated high school • 23% have some college experience • 43% earned an Associate’s or higher degree

  4. People of Little Rock (continued) • 64% over age 16 are employed • 4.5% remain unemployed • $86,273 is the average family income However… • 15% of households receive public assistance • 20% of families with children earn an income below the poverty level

Ideas to Extend Learning Community Involvement • Partner with UALR to share resources such as Ottenheimer Library and planetarium. • Cultivate a community garden while cultivating relationships in the neighborhood. • Invite volunteers to assist in LMC. • Interest Groups: walking club, knitting circle, chess club, etc.
