  3. Hephaestus • His Roman name: Vulcan • His symbols: the anvil, the tong or the hammer • Greek name: Hephaistos or Hephaestus

  4. What Hephaestus Reigns and his Relatives • The things Hephaestus rules: artisans, technology, blacksmiths, fire, metallurgy, volcanoes, metals, sculptors, and craftsmen • Children: Athen’s Erichthonius • Parents: Zeus and Hera • Loved: Charis and Aphrodite • Siblings: Ares, Hebe

  5. Hephaestus’s Weapons • His weapons: balls of melted iron, fire, and other things he rules

  6. Hephaestus’s Powers • Hephaestus’s Powers: is immortal, has physically superhuman, no aging, can’t be hurt or sick, physically stronger than regular gods, is very inventive, makes better than awesome weapons, is tricky, and is creative.

  7. Hephaestus’s Personality • Forgiving and kind • Example: Even though Hephaestus hated his mom a lot and was hurt a lot, he had still forgiven her without thinking over it really hard

A Myth about Hephaestus • The beginning of the myth starts with Antilochus tells Achilles that two sides are fighting each other to get Patroclus, a comrade, and that Hector has the armor because he took it • Then Thetis hears the sound of weeping coming from her son • After that Achilles (Thetis’s son) tells his mother his troubles

A Myth about Hephaestus (Cont) • At a different place (the place where the fight is), Hector and his troops are in the process of winning the battle over Patroclus • Then Achilles and his troops scare Hector’s troops and he goes into the fight • Polydamas wants to run away and be defensive, but Hector says no • At a different place, Thetis asks Hephaestus to make armor

  11. Interesting facts about Hephaestus • He has a different form than others (deformed) • The place where he worked was under a volcano • Hera, his mother, choose his wife for him (Aphrodite) • Hephaestus is worshipped on the island, Lemnos
