  2. Key Messages • The need for Rotary Humanitarian Service is expanding exponentially • Our numbers are not meeting this need • Address the challenge • Success will depend on: • Re-energizing ‘moribund’ clubs • Strategizing for recruitment, extension and retention

Alarming statistics show a need for Rotary to escalate Service to Humanity… Crime Child abuse and rape Abuse and violence of women 6 Million HIV + Positive in Southern Africa Hunger & Starvation ! Street Children / Orphans 40% Unemployment Illiteracy Drugs in School Plastic shacks NOHOPE ! 200 per day die of Malaria

  4. The need increases – we do not : except for odd blips, we are in steady decline

  5. Especially serious is the loss of members who have been in Rotary fewer than 3 years 18% 20% 10+ years <1 year 1-2 years 14% 5-10 years 18% 2-3 years 3-5 years 10% 20% We lose 42% of new members within 3 years of membership

  6. The reasons for termination are not all are beyond our control Business Transfer Disinterest Moved Attendance No Reason Given Business Pressure Health/ Personal Other Deceased

  7. This threatens our ability to meet Humanitarian needs: the gap is growing Humanitarian Needs GAP Membership

  8. Growth Take Action Trigger Point Business as Usual Ignore We are at a critical stage: What is our future?

  9. For Rotary to remain relevant, we must increase, revive… • This implies: • Invigorating our clubs - Boom- Boom ! • Attracting and Retaining quality members • Adopting the appropriate strategy.

  10. Your team has to revitalize the club and .., • Develop a vision - a purpose for the club – formulate its identity • Find meaningful hands-on community service projects • Don’t try to be all things to all people – be focused • Keep the all in the club active

  11. You have to • Attract top speakers, on topics of interest • Provide good programmes & deal with meals • Communicate • Be fun • Do fun • Have fun Your club is either growing or …dying ! Make the difference.
