  1. What’s Up With Wetlands?

  2. Introduction Wetlands are everywhere. We’ve studied them and visited them. Now you are going to evaluate their worth. Are they really worth all the fuss? You will go on a WebQuest with a group and determine whether we should keep our wetland laws or change them to give humans more rights to do with their land as they please.

  3. Task • In groups of 3, you will be assigned a role. You will either be: • A wetland animal or environmentalist who wants to protect the wetland • A human who wants to develop the wetland • A lawmaker who may or may not decide to change wetland laws

  4. Process and Resources: (What you need to do:) Wetland protectors and animals will visit their site(s) and list 5 reasons why wetlands should be preserved and undeveloped and write a persuasive paragraph defending their position. Developers will visit their site(s) and collect information that represents the not-so-nice characteristics of wetlands. You too, will write a persuasive paragraph to support your rights to use your land as you like. Legislative Representatives will review how a bill becomes a law by listing the steps and writing a persuasive paragraph determining if the the wetland should be preserved, developed or compromised. Each group will then perform a skit with their points of view and their outcomes.
