  2. Trials and tribulations • I am quickly learning that this micro-grant has more opportunities for my growth than the process of the proposal and timeline. To make a successful proposal requires an excellent model to scale, descriptive site maps and detail drawings. • Road bumps in team and contacts • Design • Construction

  3. Team Problems TEAM SOLUTIONS • Working with my carpenter has been scattered and less supportive than I was planning for. • I am trying to be as resourceful and local with my materials as possible. Save That Stuff in Charlestown has been difficult to coordinate a date with to retrieve materials. • Reaching out to Lee McDonald to get advice, assistance with the process of planning and contacts to assist my build. • I have corresponded with a student who is enthusiastic to assist in the build. I will set a date for spring break so that the wood can be retrieved the same day or weekend we need to cut.

  4. Design inspiration • I have been referring to professional sculptures and public art-artist to compare design processes. Steps I did not account for were the detailing of my site design drawings that I would need to practice. Now I am factoring into my timeline details of the drawing composition. • Mags Harries and LajosHéder have inspired me to take my preparation for the construction of edge-effect to a professional level. I want to use this process as practice for future proposal projects. Concept Illustration of ‘Sunflowers, An Electric Garden’ by Mags Harries and LajosHéder

  6. Modeling • I It’s going to be crucial to have a detailed model. I have never needed to fabricate details before an instillation. Currently I am playing with recycled balsa and scrap wood from the architecture departments disposed models. It is important for me to consider reuse of materials from start to finish of this project, including this model. Image above: https://urbaneden.uncc.edu/house/architecture

  7. Plants • My seedlings are sprouting and growing at different rates in my bedroom currently. • They should be fit for transplanting in a few weeks. • I have been checking in with my friend Jonathan Hart who is experienced in Permaculture Gardening. He advices me on the needs of the Chamomile, Dandelions, Beans and where to buy thyme.

  10. At this point I have… • Researched… • Proposal models and drawings. • Structurally sound wall designs. • Local resources : Save That Stuff, Agricultural Hall, Architecture Deparment, MassArtReStore • Learned… • Planning takes the majority of a timeline. • How to design a structurally sound and supportive wall. • The process of concept design. • Accomplished… • Seeds and seedling supplies ordered • Seedlings started and growing fast. • Networking with students, faculty and local companies to contribute skills and materials to make a sustainable recycled vertical garden. • The beginning sketches and materials for my model. • I
