  1. Best Friends Forever By: Tayler Fay

  2. Type of Fiction: • Adventure Fiction • A lonely girl in her early thirties (Annie) is living a very predictable life. Suddenly her best friend from back in high school (Alli) shows up at her door and says she needs help getting out of town.

  3. Identify the Speaker: • Examples: • As she talked to the person at the counter in a soft voice

  4. Problem: • Man vs. Man • When Alli shows up at the door asking for help. She says to Annie “I think I killed Dan Swansey last night at the high school reunion, I think I ran him over.” Dan Swansey was a bully from high school.

  5. Solution: • Annie accompanies Alli back to where the reunion was held and back to the scene of the crime. All that they found was a bloody belt and blood stains on the ground. Annie meets the police officer (Detective Sloan) who is working on the case. They talked for hours. Annie’s life was beginning to look up.

  6. Character Analysis: • Annie, the main character seems so sad and lonely with no social life at all. After meeting and falling in love with Detective Sloan, her character starts to completely change for the better. She becomes a much nicer person.

  7. Influence of Setting: • The setting is part of the problem because the Police can easily find them if they don’t leave town.

  8. Plot Line: • Alli, a girl in her thirties receives an invitation to her high school reunion. She couldn’t wait to get to the reunion. Annie received her invitation as well. But, she had no intention of going. Because of her weight, she was picked on, bullied and made fun of everyday in high school. She hadn’t seen anyone from her past in almost 20 years. When Alli showed up at her door she was shocked to find Annie had lost over 100 pounds.

  9. Theme: • “Maybe they could be best friends too” The moral to the story is that best friends are forever. Even if you don’t keep in touch

  10. Literary Devices: • Common literary devices from the book “Best Friends Forever” • I grabbed the basket and left the store like it was Halloween.

  11. Literary Devices: • Circular or Anticipatory. Alli and her friend talk about the past many times. Here are some examples: • When we picked up the shells with our small hands, unlike before. • When I heard Viz start to say good-bye.

  12. Plot is contrived or realistic: • Yes, this can really happen in real life. Unfortunately, murders do exist in real life. And, people can and will try to escape getting caught. Also, regarding Annie and the Policeman falling for each other. I think it’s very realistic. Sometimes the things you are looking for are right in front of your face all along.
