  16. SENIOR KEYCollege Admissions Testing The ACT/SAT is required for all 4-yr colleges and universities BUT NOT for all 2-yr GA colleges. However, 2-yr colleges may use acceptable scores to exempt the student from the COMPASS test. The COMPASS test is for Technical Colleges and Placement for 2-year colleges. The SAT II Subject test(s) may be required at the college/university you hope to attend. Check the college’s website to see if it is required. The ACT/SAT test should be taken after Math II.

Students who qualify for the SAT fee waiver are also eligible for 4 college application fee waivers. The benefit is knowing if accepted or not byDecember. • Colleges look at Rigor – GPA – ACT/SAT scores first. The essay, if required, is also VERY important. Leadership and extra-curricular involvement can sometimes make a difference, especially in the 2nd round. • An athlete should apply to the college he/she is interested in athletically AND communicate with the college coach.

  28. SENIOR KEYHOPE GPA Example of how the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) calculates the grade point average for HOPE: HOPE Transcript: *Honors 9th Lit 82 Physical Science 82 **AP US History 83 World History 89 *Honors Amer Lit 85 Spanish II 83 *Honors 9th Lit is honors, so 3 enhancement points added by the teacher is deducted by GSFC when calculating the HOPE GPA. The 82 would then become a 79 which is a “C.” *Honors AmerLit is honors, so 3 enhancement points added by the teacher is deducted by GSFC when calculating the HOPE GPA. The 85 would then become an 82 which is still a “B.” **AP US History is an AP class, so 5 enhancement points added by the teacher are deducted by GSFC when calculating the HOPE GPA. The 83 would then become a 78 which is a “C.” When averaging the grade point average for HOPE, a “2” would be used. However, it is an AP class, so a half point is added to ‘weight’ it for AP. Use a 2.5 instead of a 2.0.

  29. SENIOR KEYHOPE GPA Example of how the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) calculates the grade point average for HOPE: HOPE Transcript: *Honors 9th Lit 82 = 2 Physical Science 82 = 3 **AP US History 83 = 2.5 World History 89 = 3 *Honors Amer Lit 85 = 3 Spanish II 83 = 3 To determine the HOPE average, add the numbers together; (2 + 3 + 2.5 + 3 + 3 + 3).
