Medieval Art Renaissance Art Leonardo Donatello Raphael Michelangelo • Religious themes and darker colors • Renaissance Art – human themes, brighter colors, more perspective • Leonardo da Vinci 1452-1519 – Mona Lisa, Last Supper, “Renaissance Man” • Someone who excels at many different tasks • Art, engineering, science, art, helicopter? • Donatello 1386-1466 – “David” = first nude, bronze statue of Renaissance • Art based on human beings, not religious themes • Raphael Santi 1483-1566 – “School of Athens” • Painting of great writers and philosophers, not Biblical people • Michelangelo 1475-1564 – Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica (US Capitol Building), “David” a 17 foot statue
