  3. Timetable for Registration • Students receive registration materials and information during directed study • Registration sessions will be held February 3 – 6, 2014 • Students register on-line • Students turn in registration materials on February 12, 2014

  4. CIHS Schedule Trivia!! How many courses are offered at Cambridge-Isanti High School?

  5. There are 169courses offered at Cambridge-Isanti High School! Your course selections are used to create the schedule of next year’s classes. Choose your classes carefully! Once selections are made, they are very difficult to change.

  8. What Do I Need To Do To Earn A CIHS Diploma?

  9. Complete 52 credits • Take the MCA or GRAD Tests in written composition (grade 9), reading (grade 10), and math (grade 11) • Students must pass the writing, reading and math tests to graduate • Further information about requirements can be found on page 3 of the registration guide

MCA Test Important Note Juniors who do not pass the MCA/GRAD Math Test will need to complete the following steps: • Complete a district approved remediation program • Take the MCA/GRAD math retest after successfully completing the approved remediation program *You must complete this requirement to graduate!

  11. What Credits Need To Be Earned To Graduate From High School? What Credits Are Usually Needed To Get Into College?

  12. Full class period = 1 credit

  13. Students wanting to repeat a course must meet with their counselor for prior approval • Students must register for the “A” and “B” part of courses • It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that all graduation requirements are met. If in doubt, ask your counselor

  14. Consider What You Will Need for Post Secondary Preparation • Four Year Colleges Usually Require*: • 4 years of English • 4 years of Social Studies • 3 years of Math • 3 years of Science • 2 years of World Language • 1 year of the Arts (recommended) • Two Year Colleges Usually Require*: • That you successfully complete high school *You should contact the individual colleges for specific requirements.

  15. How Do I Know What Credits I Still Have To Earn? ...Or, How Do I Read My Transcript? Distribute a transcript to each student

  16. Transcript Information Subject– Lists each subject area and courses taken Earned Credits – The number of credits in a subject area that you have earned toward graduation To be Earned – The number of credits that you are currently taking or will take during this school year

Required English courses by grade: Students take… • Grade 9 - English 9 A & B • Grade 10 – English 10 A & B or AP Language & Composition • Grade 11 – English 11 A & B or AP Lit/Composition or College Reading & Writing • Grade 12 – English 12 A & B or AP Lit/Composition or College Reading & Writing

  18. Review English course descriptions: • Choose your next year English classes. Record your choices on the colored pre-registration sheet. • There are several English elective courses offered. Be sure to consider them when registering for elective credits. • Registration Guide Clarification: Students taking A.P. Literature & Composition must meet requirements for concurrent classes (upper 1/3 of your class as junior and upper 1/2 as senior and passing score on Accuplacer) in which you will earn 6 concurrent credits through Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

  19. What to do if you failed English in the past: • If 9th grade English was failed, you must retake in summer school or at the ALC • If a 10th or 11th grade course was failed, you should sign up for the appropriate class in the elective section on your pre-registration sheet
