  1. MEASURING POPULATION BY Walm Brek Ashe

  2. DIRECT OBSERVATION • Direct observation is when you count up all the animals of the same species. • EXAMPLE: We went up to the mountains and counted all the deer we saw.

  3. INDIRECT OBSERVATION • Indirect observation is when count the population by observing signs of the organism. • EXAMPLE: We went hiking and we saw rabbit burrows and counted them has we went. We noticed that 4 rabbits were in each burrow. We multiplied the number of burrows by the amount of rabbits in each one to figure out the population.

  4. SAMPLING • Sampling is just an estimation in which you count the number of organisms in a small area and multiply to find the whole population. • EXAMPLE: We went camping and while we were pitching our tent we noticed a lot of lilies around the area. We counted a small section of them and multiplied it to find the bigger population.

  5. Mark and Recapture • Mark and recapture is when you catch organism tag it release come back a little while later and recapture that organism and observe how many are tagged. • EXAMPLE: We went fishing. Every fish we caught we marked with a red dot. We came back 4 months later and caught more fish and counted the ones with a red dot and we marked the new fish with a yellow and the ones with red dots with a blue dot.
