  8. Definition of a Library • World Book says: Library is an organized collection of books and other materials. Such materials may include magazines, newspapers, maps, films, compact discs (CD's), online databases, and other print, electronic, and multimedia resources. Libraries play a vital role in the world’s systems of communication and education. Libraries rank among society’s most important and useful cultural institutions.

  9. Purpose of a school library media center • Providing materials • Assisting patrons • Community service School librarians are sometimes called media specialists. They select materials for the library and help students and teachers effectively use its resources. School libraries serve as centers for a wide variety of educational media. In high school, students work on more research and independent study projects than in lower grades. These skills are important for students who plan to enter college after graduation. High school librarians make sure that students know how to find materials using a wide range of resources, including various Internet sources.

  11. Procedure for students when first entering the LMC If I am busy, you can still sign in at the circulation desk and leave your note by the keyboard.

  12. Please: Do not reshelf books. Must have a signed “Acceptable Use Policy” on file in the office to use the desktop computers. For research Ask questions! . Technical assignments Read Use computers May come in during lunch May search for books For enjoyment STUDY For assignments Use iPads

  15. LIBRARY SEARCH • Scroll down the JCHS homepage and hover over the Library Media Center link until the JCHS online library links comes up • Choose Johnson County High School • Type in a search term in the search box and choose which way you would like to search

Quick Quiz • I f your last name has more than 5 letters, please stand and point to the fiction section. • If you have blue eyes, please go and stand near the paperback section. • Those with painted nails, go quietly to the reference section. • If you have green eyes, go to the circulation desk where you would check out a book.
