  1. Character First ORDERLINESS

  2. Character is the inward motivation to do what is rightin every situation even when no one is looking

  3. ORDERLINESS Arranging myself and my surroundings to achieve greater efficiency.

  4. ORDERLINESS Orderliness is not a natural tendency or event. You must make it a habit.

  5. ORDERLINESS Orderliness is critical to accomplish any task in an efficient manner, especially when the task may change.

  6. ORDERLINESS Remember that orderliness is not a goal in and of itself. It is a means of achieving greater productivity.

  7. I Will: Pick Up After Myself: • As soon as a person is finished using something, he or she should immediately put it away.

  8. I Will: Keep My Work and Play Areas Clean and Neat: • If a person continues picking up after themselves on a regular basis, it will become a habit.

  9. I Will: Put Things Back Where They Belong: • Returning items to their proper places after they are used reduces piles and messes.

  10. I Will: Use Things Only for Their Intended Purposes: • Everything has a specific design and purpose and should be used accordingly.

  11. I Will: Return Lost Things to Their Rightful Owners: • Just as everything belongs in its place, everything belongs in the hands of its rightful owner.

  12. Five Keys to Orderliness: • Set Priorities: Take enough time to think and plan things in the order of their importance. • Set the Standard: Seek to identify the standard that will bring order to the confusion. • Get Organized: Orderliness involves more than making a space neat. It needs to be a habit. • Avoid Clutter: If an unused item cannot to sold, donated, or recycled--dispose of it. • Put Away-Right Away: The key to maintaining orderliness is to order as you go.

  13. ORDERLINESS “Let all things be done decently and in order.” Saint Paul

  14. ORDERLINESS “The chief aid to memory is order.” Simonides

  15. ORDERLINESS “As the beams to a house, as the bones to the microcosm of man, so is order to all things.” Robert Southey

  16. ORDERLINESS Ask Yourself: • How is orderliness demonstrated in the classroom, at home, or on the job? • How does spending time organizing at setup save time later? • How would you define clutter?

  17. ORDERLINESS Example In Nature

  18. ORDERLINESS CHIPMUNK A chipmunk has different rooms at various levels underground. It has a place for everything, and keeps everything in its place.

  19. ORDERLINESS CHIPMUNK The chipmunk makes the underground tunnels wide enough so the hair on its body stays clean and neat as it runs through them.

  20. ORDERLINESS CHIPMUNK A chipmunk can stuff 31 corn kernels, or 13 prune stones, or 65 sunflower seeds in its mouth at once. It does not store this food together, but keeps it separate and in order.

  21. ORDERLINESS Example In History

  22. Garrett Morgan In the early 1920’s, automobiles became more affordable, and the city streets quickly became crowded. Garrett began working on a solution to the traffic chaos.

  23. Garrett Morgan Garrett realized that order exists when two or more objects operate by a single standard. He erected a pole with a bell on the top, and affixed a pair of flaps that could be alternately raised and lowered electrically.

  24. Garrett Morgan He affixed the word STOP in red on one flag and GO in green on the other. He equipped them with lights for use in the dark. Garrett had invented the first traffic signal.

  25. Garrett Morgan The design of the traffic signal has been changed over the years, however the basic principle of promoting safety through orderly transit remains the same.

  26. When Cultivating The Character Of Orderliness Remember To: • Order with Patience • Exercise Flexible Orderliness • Have Diligent Orderliness
