  1. Character First SINCERITY

  2. Character is the inward motivation to do what is rightin every situation even when no one is looking

  3. SINCERITY Sincerity is “eagerness to do what is right with transparent motives.”

  4. SINCERITY Sincerity is doing what is right—not just on the outside, but on the inside as well.

  5. SINCERITY A sincere person does what is right not only when others are watching, but even when there is no one else around.

  6. SINCERITY Sincerity is doing what is right all the time and in every place.

  7. I Will: Be All That I Can Be: • Sincere people choose to develop and fulfill all their talents and abilities, keeping nothing hidden from others.

  8. I Will: Take Responsibility For My Own Actions: • Though it is not always easy, taking responsibility for one’s actions is a prerequisite for genuine sincerity.

  9. I Will: Always Mean What I Say: • If you say it—mean it. Do not make promises that you don’t intend to keep and don’t give compliments you don’t mean.

  10. I Will: Respect Others’ Opinions: • You can respect another’s opinion without agreeing with it. Because every person deserves respect.

  11. I Will: Not Take Advantage of Other People: • To be sincere, a person’s motives must be transparent, unselfish, and without hidden intentions.

  12. Five Keys to Sincerity: • Say What You Mean: Sincerity is making the facts clear, even when they are not appealing. • Mean What You Say: Be sure your life proves the reality of your representations. • Practice What You Preach: Don’t just say what is right—do what is right. • Check Your Motives: Build a habit of asking, “Why am I doing this?” • Do Not Take Advantage of Others: Relationships are not “opportunities” to get what you want.

  13. SINCERITY “Speech is a mirror of the soul: as a man speaks, so is he.” Publilius Syrus

  14. SINCERITY “There is no wisdom like frankness.” Benjamin Disraeli

  15. SINCERITY “Sincerity goes further than capacity.” William Penn

  16. SINCERITY Ask Yourself: • What do you think about someone who says one thing and does the opposite? • How does this affect relationships? • What should you do if you discover you have selfish motives?

  17. SINCERITY Example In Nature

  18. SINCERITY OYSTER Sand and debris get stuck in the sensitive parts of the oyster. The oyster senses the pain, becomes irritated and ends up producing a tear-like liquid called “nacre.”

  19. SINCERITY OYSTER As the nacre becomes hard around the debris, it eases the pain the oyster is sensing and forms a shiny covering around the hurt which after years becomes a pearl.

  20. SINCERITY OYSTER It takes several years of pain and effort for an oyster to create its treasure, but the end result is a valuable pearl.

  21. SINCERITY OYSTER A pearl is genuine and good all the way through. A man-made pearl may seem beautiful on the outside, but they are fake on the inside and chip and dull easily.

  22. SINCERITY Example In History

  23. Elijah McCoy After observing the ineffectiveness and danger of oiling train parts by hand, Elijah developed the automatic lubricator. From 1872-1915, most locomotives in the US and many foreign lands used his lubricator cup.

  24. Elijah McCoy In 1916 Elijah McCoy received a patent for his graphite lubricator. By using a solid lubricant, McCoy’s innovation reduced wear on parts inside the high-pressure, 400 degree steam engine.

  25. Elijah McCoy Numerous competitors jumped into the market and began manufacturing similar lubricators. Unlike the competitors, Elijah had not cut corners. His product was top quality through-and-through.

  26. Elijah McCoy Within ten years, his device was so successful that machinists began to insist on have “the real McCoy,” rather than look-alike lubricators. Thus, McCoy’s own name became synonymous with quality and sincerity.

  27. When Cultivating The Character Of Sincerity Remember To: • Do not let circumstances dictate your responses. • Do your best at whatever task is before you. • Choose quality over quantity. • Care about others.
