  2. Today’s Agenda Today’s Targets Developing effective thesis statements and topic sentences • Warm-up • Final Tests returned with discussion • Thesis and topic sentence development for ethics in science persuasive essay • HOMEWORK: Complete outline by Friday

  3. Warm-up Reflect on the presentations and answer the following questions: • Which presentation was the most memorable and why? • What do you think went well with your own presentation? • What would have made your presentation better?

  4. Final Tests • Hero’s journey: • Most people did well on defining stages • Summarizing does not = making comparisons • Literary devices • Ok on defining • Identification shows need for closer reading • Works Consulted • Need for review of some basics

  5. Thesis and topic sentences • Take out a piece of paper and put your name on it. • Number the questions then respond. • What was your topic/issue for research? • Write a thesis statement to reflect your opinion on the topic. • Feel free to manipulate the original question. • Include your three reasons. • Write three topic sentences, one for each of your body paragraphs. Have me check your arguments before proceeding to including evidence.

  6. After thesis and TS approval • Select your best evidence for each point (2-3 facts per paragraph) • Check on: • Accurate? • Relevant? • Specific enough? • Reliable source? • Fill in hook and complete basis of outline (Due Friday in electronic form)
