Key Preliminary Findings • Texas ranks second (with Pa) in the U.S. in its number of pharmacy schools. • Applications to pharmacy school increased by 134 percent from 2000 to 2005. • Graduates increased by 61 percent from 2000 to 2005 and are projected to increase by 53 percent from 2005 to 2014 as the new pharmacy schools build capacity. • Residents of the Metroplex are under-represented in pharmacy education. 06/2006

  27. Key Preliminary Findings (cont). • Texas is a net importer of pharmacists. In 2005, the net increase in total licensees did not meet the State’s annual projection of pharmacist job openings. • Texas schools could increase their class size and remain within the norm for schools in states with similarly large population. • The Metroplex has the third largest number of pharmacists per 100,000 population in the state. • 49% of new out-of-state graduates and 23% of new Texas graduates practice in the Metroplex. 06/2006
