  2. aqua/hydra- water • hydrant- an upright water pipe, esp. one in a street, with a nozzle to which a fire hose can be attached. • aquarium-a transparent tank of water in which fish and other water creatures and plants are kept

  3. aqua/hydra- water • aqueduct-an artificial channel for conveying water, typically in the form of a bridge supported by tall columns across a valley. • aquifer- a body of permeable rock that can contain or transmit groundwater. • aquatic- of or relating to water

  4. aqua/hydra- water • hydraulic- denoting, relating to, or operated by a liquid moving in a confined space under pressure • aqualung- a portable breathing apparatus for divers, consisting of cylinders of compressed air strapped on the diver's back, feeding air automatically through a mask or mouthpiece.

  5. aqua/hydra- water • hydrophonic- the process of growing plants in sand, gravel, or liquid, with added nutrients but without soil. • aquamarine- a light bluish-green color : the aquamarine of the Atlantic Ocean

  6. aqua/hydra- water • aquarius- a large constellation, the Water-carrier or Water-bearer, said to represent a man pouring water from a jar. It contains no bright stars but has several planetary nebulae.

  7. ocu/opt- eye • ocular- of or connected with the eyes or vision • monocle-a single eyeglass, kept in position by the muscles around the eye. • optometry- the practice or profession of examining the eyes for visual defects and prescribing corrective lenses.

  9. dia- through, throughout • diameter- a straight line passing from side to side through the center of a body or figure, esp. a circle or sphere. • diagonal- (of a straight line) joining two opposite corners of a square, rectangle, or other straight-sided shape.

  10. val- strength, worth (value) • valid- actually supporting the intended point or claim; legally acceptable • valor- great courage in the face of danger, esp. in battle • valiant- possessing or showing courage or determination

  11. val- strength, worth (value) • valedictorian- a student, typically having the highest academic achievements of the class, who delivers the valedictory at a graduation ceremony.

  12. circum- around, roundabout, go around • circumspect- wary and unwilling to take risks • circumstance-  an event or fact that causes or helps to cause something to happen, typically something undesirable
