  2. Teleplay • A teleplay is a script for a television movie or program. The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is an actual episode of a science fiction series called The Twilight Zone.

  3. Symbol • A symbol is something that stands for something else. • Maple Street symbolizes streets everywhere, suggesting that people everywhere can behave like the Maple Street residents. • Try to identify other examples of symbolism as we read the teleplay.

  4. Complications • Complications are meant to increase our anxiety about how the story will finally end.

  5. Inference • An inference is an educated guess, a conclusion that makes sense because it’s supported by evidence. • As you are reading the story, you will stop and make inferences when you see the inference symbol.
