  4. Our Goals for You • GRADUATION in May of 2017 • PURPOSEFUL COURSE SELECTIONS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER ELECTIVE FAIR IN Cafeteria

  5. Graduation Requirements 24credits required to graduate 6 classes each semester 0.5 credits per semester class 2 semesters 6 credits a year X4 years = 24

  6. Graduation Requirements • English: 4.0 credits • Math: 3.0 credits • Science: 2.0 credits • Social Studies: 2.0 cr. (USH 1,Govt 0.5 & SS Elect 0.5) • PE: 3.0 creditsand Health: 0.5 credits • Consumer Ed: 0.5 credits • Fine Arts, W. Lang, and/or Career Tech: 1 cr. • Electives: 8 credits

  7. Minimum College Admissions Requirements– 4 Year Colleges • English – 4.0 credits • Math – 3.0 credits • Science – 3.0 credits • Social Studies – 3.0 credits • Fine Arts or Foreign Language – 2.0 credits

  8. Course Selection Worksheet (GOLD) • Review Required Freshman Courses Level recommendations are based on standardized test scores and 8th academic performance. Questions should be directed to the 8th grade teacher • Select 7 or 6 course schedule • Lunch • Select Elective Courses List in priority order. Include extra choices as alternates

Step 1 : Review 9th Grade Requirements English 1.0 • English 9 or English 9 Ac (Accelerated) • English w/ Enrichment (2.0 cr. includes Enrichment) Mathematics 1.0 • Algebra or Geometry Ac or Algebra 2 Ac • Algebra w/ Enrichment Science 1.0 • Biology or Biology Ac Social Studies 1.0 • World Studies PE/Health 1.0 BLANK Course requests may indicate that course will be based on IEP or ELL recommendations

PE Waiver Form (GOLD) : • Students may WAIVE Physical Education if they are in Marching Band (Concert or Symphonic) • Complete the Waiver Form and STAPLE to your Course Request • Indicate class you want to take instead of PE • INCLUDE class on Course Selection sheet You do NOT need Band Director signature

  11. STEP 2: Schedule Options • 7 classes (without any study hall) 7.0 credits • 6 classes (with study hall all year) 6.0 credits Only 6 classes are guaranteed.

  12. Step 3: Lunch Lunch is combined with your 5th hour class 11:40 am – 1:05pm • 5AB Class 5C Lunch • 5A Class 5B Lunch 5C Class • 5A Lunch 5BC Class

  13. Step 4: Elective Choices • Elective Courses for Freshman (BLUE) Full Year Courses = 1.0 credits Semester Courses = 0.5 credits • Freshman Electives (YELLOW) Course Descriptions for all Freshman Electives *ADDITION: Concert Band 1.0

Elective Considerations: World Language • Spanish 1 • Must have C or better in 8th grade English • Spanish 2 • Must pass Spanish 1 in 8th grade • German 1 - Must have a C or better in 8th grade English World Language is NOT a graduation requirement. However, SOME colleges require 2 years or World Language for College Admission

  15. Elective Considerations:Music CHORUS:Girls Freshman Chorus 1100 Boys Mixed Chorus 1108 BAND: 8thgr.Band Members Concert Band 1111 Learn an Instrument Intro to Band 1119 Jazz Band Jazz Band 1114 and Concert Band 1111

  16. List Electives in Priority Order • Required courses 5 credits 5 + 1.0 elective credit = 6 and Study Hall 5 + 2.0 elective credits = 7 and NO Study Hall • Select EXTRA electives. Used if your first choices are full or do not fit into your schedule • List all your choices in priority order

  17. Special Programs: Running Start Program Requirements: • 3.0 GPA at the end of the 9th grade year • Must complete Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 by the end of 10th grade • Must take Consumer Ed in 10th grade Application process starts in Fall of 10th grade

  18. 9th grade Physical Form • Must be completed prior to the first day of school • May be turned into BNHS school nurse upon completion • Make a copy for your records

  19. Reminder! Course Selection Forms must turned in to BCMS Science teacher by: Wednesday February 27th BNHS Counselors will meet with 8th grade students on: Friday March 1st
