  1. The invention and innovationsof da Vinci Robotic surgical system By: Hannah Yaun & Catherine Humphreys

  2. It’s purpose For Laparoscopic Surgery- to minimize: • Infections • Incisions • Healing time For Open Surgery- • To enhance the effects of

  3. It’s Origin and History • Originally robotic surgery was flawed and used for battle field triage in 1980s • Original efforts were funded by DARPA • Its need for a tracking device made it vulnerable

  4. The Birth of the da Vinci System • In 2000 the da Vinci system was put on the market • It was innovated for simpler machines made by the engineers of DARPA • There were skeptics when it first came out about safety

  5. Progressing da Vinci System • The original system had tools that weren't made for specific jobs • The tool are designed like human hands in the way they rotate • In 2003 a 4th arm was added The tools have a wider range of motion than actual human hand

  6. The S System The S System Was Made With: • HD Graphics • Enhanced reach ability • The ability to multi task

  7. Time Line • In 2000 it was approved for Laparoscopic surgery and put on the market • In 2003 a 4th arm was added to the system • In 2006 the S model was made • it offered HD to the surgeon with increased reaching ability • In April of 2009 the da Vinci Si system was introduced

  8. The da Vinci Si System • 2 surgeons can work together • Enhanced vision • Refined controls • Touch pad control system

  9. Possible Future Innovations It Could Be or Have… • Wireless • A 5th limb • Wireless cameras • Detachable arm for maintenance purposes

  10. The Present Day da Vinci System • Our currently used system is the Si system • Used for Laparoscopic and Open Surgery • It has 4 arms • three arms with tools • One with a camera • HD screen • Control center for surgeon(s)

  11. The Product • It is classified under the medical field of engineering • It has help people have better surgical results and experiences • It is difficult to operate and has replaced some human jobs

  12. Bibliography • Wikipedia • http://www.intuitivesurgical.com/company/history/system.html • davincisurgery.com

  13. This is the End of this presentation but its not the end of the da Vinci System’sinnovations…
