What I need to know as a pharmacy technician(Insert Dari) Insert Dari • In this lecture we will cover the drugs listed in the ANA Formulary which are classified according to the ATC system under • (V) Various Drugs • For each of these medications/classes students must obtain an understanding of: • (1) Mechanism of Action • (2) Indications (Uses) • (3) Efficacy (when applicable) • (4) Side Effects (when applicable)

  6. Mechanism of Action(Insert Dari) • Flumazenil: prevents activity at the benzodiazepine receptor site • Naloxone: competes and displaces opioids at opioid receptor sites. Indication (Uses) مورد استعمال • Overdose • Reverse side effect of benzodiazepenes (Flumazenil) • Reverse side effect of narcotics (Naloxone) • Used to wake a person up from surgery (flumazenil).

  7. Side Effects عوارض جانبی • Naloxone: • Dizziness • Upset stomach • Flumazenil: • Dizziness • Upset stomach • Flushing • Blurred eyesight • Dry mouth • *Both are administered but subcutaneous injection or intravenously*

  11. Mechanism of Action(Insert Dari) • Opacification of vessels and anatomical structures in the path of flow of the contrast media which allows for radiographic visualization. Indication (Uses) مورد استعمال Used to visualize anatomical structures during diagnostic imaging.

  12. Side Effects عوارض جانبی • Possible allergy symptoms including: rash hives, itching, red swollen blistered skin • Dizziness • Flushing • Upset Stomach

  14. Mechanism of Action(Insert Dari) • Stops nerve conduction preventing feeling or sensation in the area applied. Indication (Uses) مورد استعمال • Oral and topical anesthetic (numbing agent). • Used in minor procedures and dental work.

  16. Mechanism of Action(Insert Dari) • Oral Herbal Supplement that is proposed to relax smooth muscle allowing easier passage of kidney stones. Also thought to help disintegrate kidney stones. • Kidney stones. Indication (Uses) مورد استعمال

  17. Side Effects عوارض جانبی Mild gastrointestinal upset. There have been some studies showing a benefit to taking this medication, still more research needs to completed to fully understand the benefit of this product. Efficacy (Insert Dari)

  18. Mechanism of Action(Insert Dari) • Draws water into the bowel stimulating a bowel movement and thus emptying the bowel. Indication (Uses) مورد استعمال • Given to patients to empty the bowel prior to a procedure.
