  2. Syllabus: by subject/staff Subjects Intro: Major Health Burdens – interesting? but just the intro! DL: Blood Pressure Regulation, Hypertension, Atherosclerosis, Coronary Heart Disease/Stroke, Congestive Heart Failure; Diabetes 1, Diabetes 2; COPD, Asthma; Renal Failure BV: Drugs of Abuse 1, 2, 3; Inborn Errors RJ: (Neuroanatomy) MS, PD, Dementias LL: Respiratory infections JMc: Ageing

  3. Syllabus: by major area Major Topic Areas: Cardio: BP/Hyper; Renal Failure;AS/CHD/Stroke/CHF Metabolic: Diabetes; Inborn errors Resp: RespInf/COPD/Asthma Pharm: Various CNS drugs of abuse; Neurodegen:Movement (inc anat); Dementia (inc anat); Misc?: Ageing So, 6 questions from 10? With a fairly even ‘balance’? cannot be ‘perfect’ as that would guarantee things like ageing cannot be ‘random’ as that is unfair

  4. Syllabus: revision strategies Major Topic Areas*: (*lots of minor/sub-topics) CV/fluid: 6 weeks – 3 major topics on previous slide Metabolic: 3 weeks – 2 major topics on previous slide Resp: 3 weeks – 1 major topic on previous slide Pharm: 3 weeks – 1 major topic on previous slide Neurodegen:4 weeks – 2 major topics on previous slide Misc?: 1 weeks – 1 major topic on previous slide Do not question-spot on basis of last year! Should you ‘target’ revision? Your choice! One question on the sample paper will appear on actual exam. So, practise those questions (and make up ‘new’ ones based on these). Make a revision schedule. (2/3rds reading, 1/3rd practising?) I’m happy to ‘skimread’ drafts by email.

  5. Syllabus: exam strategies 6 Q, answer 3 in 3 hours. Essay type; ie intro, main part, summary/conclusions. Rule #1: answer the question as set. ‘Decode’ question and highlight key words; what is the lecturer actually after? Rule #2: sketch out an essay plan. Rule #3: show how your detail relates to the question (will keep you focussed and convince us you know how the detail relates to the question). Rule #4: use all the time available, but don’t ‘waste’ time by spending too much on one question – law of diminishing returns. Rule #5: use diagrams. Rule #6: try to have a reference or two to ‘drop in’ your answer. Rule #7: answer the question as set. Might need to leave things out for clarity and focus!
