  2. HABITAT • The giant green anemone lives on the rocks of tide pools, and in deep channels on exposed rocky shores. They can also be found on the concrete piling on open base harbors.

  3. Description • The giant green anemone is amazing to look at. • It has a green to dark brow column with the tentacles in its crown being a greenish, bluish, or white( never pink at the tips)with no bands or markings . • The tentacles are numerous short and conical. • The anemone can grow to almost a foot( 30cm) in height and over nine inches(25cm) in diameter.

  4. Common Name • The common name for the giant green anemone are Giant Green Pacific Sea Anemone and Green Surf Anemone

  5. Scientific Name • The scientific name for the giant green anemone is anthlopleura xanthogrammica.

  6. Look like • The giant green anemone looks like a plant or flower, but they are actually animals

  7. size • The giant green anemone can grow up to 6.5”(17cm)in diameter and can reach as tall as 11”or more(30cm)

  8. What it eats • The giant green anemone is a carnivore,in the wild they eat urchins, small fish , crabs, and dislodged mussels

  9. Reproduction • The giant green anemone reproduce by external fertilization of egg and sperm.

  10. Endangered • The giant green anemones do have predators in the wild sea snails and sea spiders are the only too that eat the giant green anemones.

  11. Where found • The giant sea anemones can be found in waters from panama(in areas with cold water)up to the pacific coast line, and then onto to Alaska.

  12. Facts • The giant green anemones that are left out of the water, when the tide recedes will force the water out of their body cavaties, pull in the tentacles and fold inward for protection until the return of the tide. • The giant green anemone is generally used to research and have proven very useful to the medical community. It is contributing to the development of heart medications. A compound from the anemone is now used as a vertebrate heart stimulant.
