  2. Topics of Study • Number Theory • Fractions • Geometry • Measurement

  3. How do we grade? • Home 15% • Participation 15% • Assessments & Quizzes 70% • Assessments weighted twice • Quizzes weighted once

  4. Homework • The purpose of homework is help your child practice the skills they have learned that day at home. • Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday and occasionally on weekends if an assessment falls on a Monday. • They should bring home a note page that thoroughly explains the process for completing the skill they are practicing. • Homework score is calculated based on the following: • If turned in on time and with good effort, the assignment is worth 1 point. • If turned in late or turned in with little effort, the assignment is worth ½ point. • If not turned in at all, the assignment is worth 0 points.

  5. Assessments/Quizzes • Assessments are given at the end of each chapter and are weighted twice. • Quizzes are also known as “Check My Progress” and are given throughout a chapter. Quizzes are only weighted one time. • The purpose of assessing is to determine student strengths and areas for growth. From there, we can develop activities or lessons to challenge or support your child.

  6. Participation • 15% of the overall math score. • This score is based upon students working independently and collaboratively with their peers and coming to class prepared with the proper materials.
