  3. Purpose of Fall Sports Family Meeting • What’s new in Regina Athletics? • Provide necessary information to student-athletes and parents. • Reiterate the Code of Conduct. • Prepare families for competition.

  4. School Mission: Regina Dominican, a college preparatory Catholic school for women, sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, fosters academic excellence, truth, peace and justice while challenging each student to develop leadership for life and respect for all races, cultures and faiths.

  8. Booster Club Stephen Gibbons Speaking tonight. Booster Club is the heartbeat of Regina Dominican Athletics. Regina Dominican does not charge sport fees. Participation is not required. Two ways we raise money for Athletics: 1) Golf Outing 2) BC Membership Fees

  9. Communications We understand that issues will arise from time to time between player and coaches. We encourage players to communicate concerns directly to the head coach. If an issue remains unresolved, then we encourage the parent/guardian to discuss the issue with the coach. If the issue remains unresolved, I am happy to sit down with the student-athlete, parent and coach to discuss the issue. We ask that parents/guardians wait 24 hours after a contest or practice before contacting the coach directly.

  12. At Regina Dominican • Sportsmanship is important. • Players are respectful of teammates, opponents, coaches and officials. • It is a privilege to be on an athletic team. • “Regina girls compete!” • Sports are fun. • Academics matter.

Sportsmanship • If a student is removed from a contest: • Coach will inform AD of the event that took place • IHSA suspension from contests • Additional Regina Dominican suspension may follow • Be respectful • Cheer with class • We also expect parents to display class and be positive at athletic events.

  14. Eligibility • Student-Athletes are ineligible if: • Any grades of an “F” • More than one grade of a “D” • Eligibility Reports are generated on Thursdays Sun Mon Tue Wed Thurs Fri Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thurs Fri

Eligibility Continued • Student-Athletes who are ineligible: • Are still expected to practice • May not travel with the team to away events • May not wear uniform for home events (can sit on the bench in street clothes) • I will personally check with all teachers who have athletes that are ineligible • AD has the authority to use best judgement and handle eligibility case by case

Attendance Policy • Monitored during and afterschool • SportUp – Attendance Tracking • Notify coaches of scheduled appointments (attending or not) • Must be in attendance 4 periods (unless previously arranged) • See individual coach for team specific attendance policies • Unexcused absences – expectations • Your sport is your commitment

Uniforms/Equipment • All athletes are responsible for the care and security of equipment & uniforms issued to them • Uniforms are to be worn only for contests, practice (when necessary) and at coaches discretion • Any and all equipment & uniforms not returned in good condition will be subject to a fine • All student-athletes have two-weeks after their last game to turn in all issued uniforms, warm-ups, and equipment – anything turned in after the two-week time period will result in a $150 fine. • Student-Athletes will not be allowed to participate in other sports until the uniform has been returned or the fine has been paid.

Student-Athlete Agreement • Being a student-athlete at Regina Dominican is a privilege. • High expectations for student-athletes. • Leadership big focus at the school • Regina Dominican student-athletes will conduct themselves in a first class manner on and off the floor. • Pay attention to the code of conduct (in effect 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. • Regina Dominican pride! • Regina girls compete!

  20. Code of Conduct Violations The following categories of behavior are unacceptable and are violations of the Code of Conduct. Category 1: Academic dishonesty; inappropriate behavior and/or acts of unsportsmanlike behavior such as, but not limited to, hazing, fighting, gambling, verbal abuse, and harassment of faculty, officials, players, spectators, students, or coaches, theft, or vandalism; and falsification of information or signature. Category 2: Use, transfer, possession, or sale of tobacco, nicotine products, vape pens, accessories, or look-alikes. Category 3: Use, transfer, possession, or sale of alcohol, marijuana, steroids, or any illicit drugs, drug paraphernalia, look-alikes, or abuse of prescription/non-prescription drugs. Refer to the Student Handbook for further explanation

  21. Code of Conduct Consequences The following consequences for student-athletes are entirely separate from those consequences outlined for non-athletes. Category 1 and Category 2: • First Offense: Suspension from 20% of contest dates • Second Offense: Suspension from 40% of contest dates or loss of interscholastic eligibility Category 3: • First Offense: Suspension from 50% of contest dates • According to the Gross Disobedience and Misconduct Policy (see pages 34-36), should a student be “involved in any subsequent drug or alcohol related incident, the student may be subject to immediate expulsion from Regina Dominican.”
