  2. Biographical Information • Matt Christopher was born August 16. 1917 in Bath, PA. Matt Christopher died in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 20, 1997 of a brain tumor. Matts Parents names were Fred and Mary Christopher. Matt’s wife was Catherine and they had 4 kids, Martain, Dale, Duane, and his Daughter Panela. Matt graduated from Ludlow Ville, NY High school in 1935. He received two awards, The Junior book award in 1957. He also received the Writers Digest Award in 1964 and 1965. Matt Lived In Ludlow Ville, NY.

  4. Slam Dunk • The genre for the book “ Slam Dunk “ by Matt Christopher is realist fiction. The setting for the story is at a basketball court. The main characters are Julian, Grady, Barry, Mick, and Len. The problem in the story is that Julian thinks the basketball team is going to stink and he can’t get along with anyone. The resolution is that Julian talks to one of his friends in the hospital and he helped Julian calm down. Julian then gets along with his friends. I did not find this book that great. I didn’t find this book that great because there is only one game and more than half the story is on how Julian cant get along with anyone.

  5. Face-Off • The genre off my book is Realistic Fiction because it is about a hockey player that is having trouble with his friends and that could happen. The setting of the book is at a Hockey rink and a frozen pond. The characters are Del, Skinny, Scott ,and Cathy. Scott Harrison is a normal kid and he was good at ice skating but when he gets asked to be on the Golden Bears Hockey team he can’t believe it. But he has two problems he is puck shy and Del is jealous of him. Scott get’s over his puck shy by putting his hand up and catching the puck and dropping it. Del and his coach both give him a complement. Del, Skinny, and Scott are the three ice skaters. I think this would be a good book for 4th or 5th graders because it is a short book and it is full of excitement.

Compare and Contrast Same Different • Slam Dunk is a book about basketball, although Face-off is a book about hockey. • In Slam Dunk, Julian has a sister but on the other hand, in Face-Off Scott has no siblings. • In Slam Dunk, Julian’s team plays 1 game even though in Face-Off, Scott’s team plays a whole season. • Face-Offand Slam Dunk are similar because they are both sports books. • Both of the main characters, Julian and Scott, do not have pets. • Julian, like Scott, are having trouble with their teammates.
